What's wrong with Frankenbikes (other than the fact that there has been a long-standing rivalry between Frankens and Bavarians )? I own one Frankenbike and it works extremely well.
Seriously, it would indeed be like BMW to find ways to make retrofitting hard to accomplish. I'll hang on to my fuel bottles for a while longer and see what the Franken-builders come up with.

Still don't see the need for it but ok.

Be sure to figure that rear shock bolt out.

I'm sure it's not the Frankenbikes so much as the Frankenbuilers. Give some people tools and a bit of time and it often results in a 911 cab ride.

I note that the seat is not twin Colour like in the promotion pics or is that only the launch edition that has that seat.

All I need now is a dealer who has one and I'm going to go get it

Sandstorm launch edition.. bring it on.. I wonder if the launch edition is worth more than the other one? or do they chuck in the rest of the stuff to make up for the dealers not giving you 1 cent less than RRP? :P

Wow I wish I was there. I love France. What region was it?

Were there any details provided with the bike from BMW or was it just on display?

This took place in Provence between the town of Orange and Avignon.
For the F800GS Adventure, BMW staff were onsite for any question (i did not ask any btw )

Down here in socialist democratic Australia we are being charged $18,500 which is $18500 us as our dollar has parity.

The triumph tiger is $15600 from memory.
Just spoke to the dealers in doncster and it is more closely to 24,000$ all kitted
They are still waiting on details so it might be too soon to speak. ADR might make this bike a little different for us here.
I am looking also to get a mid-weight adventure but KTM with the 1190 R seem a bit too big but way more attractive then the 1200GS killer.

Triumph tiger is nice but build quality is laking and not the same, seen a few where things peel off etc. also the 800GS standard is not far from the tiger and is about 16,000$ standard.

Dont know what to do anymore.

Hey Mate, doncaster BMW are full of shit, I spoke with them when organising my one and told the dude over the phone that he has lost a sale, when i went in there i spent 20mins trying to get a price from him as i was asking whats the best price you can do on this? and he kept saying what price are you willing to pay for it?.. and repeat..

I found a dealer in NT who has all the pricing in front of him (as they got it 2 weeks ago) and he has said $21890 fully kitted out, but vic is about $300 cheaper..

He even has a preorder advert up http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/winne...way/1018916199

Spot on, if i had a 800GS it would not make me change but when i am comparing it to the vaccume KTM left with the 640 Adv the long range tank and their location, the width of the front and the wind protection it sounds more and more like a match to my search.
I would get alot of C&^%#p here for moving from KTM to BMW but that is life, not everyone has to agree with your personal choices nor do you need to justify them.

No manufacturer designs a new model with the sole intention of persuading existing owners to trade up. Well, not since Ford wrote "1956" on the grilles of its cars, anyway. Sure, trade-ups are welcome, but the main aim of a release like this is to stimulate new sales from people who weren't considering buying BMW. This update simply gives new buyers a further choice - I'd imagine BMW view it as offering a cheaper alternative to the 1200GSA rather than as an upgrade to the 800GS. (Just like the F800GT is pitched as an R1200RT-Lite, not as a super-dooper comfy F700 upgrade.)

Regardless, don't judge it by whether you'd upgrade to one - judge it by what you'd do if, heaven forbid, your existing ride was stolen and you found yourself in the showroom with a fistful of cash and no bike. Me, I'd choose this over a replacement 800GS, but like you, I don't see value in trading up to it.

If I replace my GS with a KTM1190, we could just swap friends...

That is the optional "low seat" thus the no two tone.
