Nice report HulkedUp. That was me on the GS and Adam, Dan and Ray on KTMs. We were slabbing it home and I peeled off 91 to 2 then 495 to home. What a great weekend and route, huh? Here's my gallery for the weekend.

It looks like you guys had a great weekend too. Weird, I think you guys were riding a route through Mass. that I laid out last year (Trans-Mass Trail). I know Old Route 9 was on it. Is it possible to bypass the trees now?

Seems like alot of fun. I plan on doing it this year. However, is it required to have street plates for the trip? It seems as though most of it are dirt roads but not trails. I am not sure.

This answer is 2 years late but yes. You need to be highway legal. These are mostly town-owned maintained or unmaintained, public roads.
