Brisbane to Jackadgery return

The plan was for John (1150GSA), Steve (990 Adv) and me (1150GSA) to ride from Brissy to Jackadgery via Kyogle, the Richmond Ranges and the Clarence Way, camp the night and return Sunday.

John & I met Steve at Beaudesert for a quick coffee and headed out along the awesome Lions Rd to Kyogle.

From Kyogle, we went west to Doubtful Creek and onto the dirt into the Richmond Range NP. Spectacular weather - cool & clear. The bikes were made for these roads so the fun factor was high!

John on the BMW

Steve on the KTM

The Beemer and typical forest road.

We stopped at the Sextonville Forest Rd & Cambridge Plateau Rd junction before heading south further into the forest.

After about 20km we stopped to take in the views!

Then Steve notices something was missing - a pannier with half his camping kit! So a slow backtrack was in order hoping it didn't bounce too far into the bushes. After about 20ks we found it and strapped it back on!

The run back along Plateau was even more fun this time round as we knew what to expect.

We came across a few fellow riders (inmates?) who told us the views and tracks got even better!

And they sure did!

Getting late by this stage so rather than go via Deep Ck, Clarence Way and Carnham Rd we decided to head straight down Clarence Way to set up camp before dark. We took the Lilydale shortcut over the Clarence, which was flowing at a rate of knots!

Sunset on Mann River bridge just before Jackadgery

On arrival at the Mann River caravan park.

We set up camp, got a few bevvies and massive "Mountain Burger" & chips from the caravan park kiosk!

John found out his $10 KMart tent wasn't made for tall people, but that was soon fixed!

The next morning dawned bright and sunny and as there was no planned route back to Brissy we thought we'd do the bits we missed yesterday, first Cangai, then Carnham.

The dirt was smooth and grippy and we stopped after a small water crossing. Then the fun started!

John and I headed off to the Mann River crossing and waited for Steve.

We waited, then backtracked to find him unable to start the big 990.

It seemed like a flat battery so we tried pushing and then jump starting but couldn't keep it going. After not being able to sort it out, we gave Steve a ride back to Jackadgery to sort out assistance from NRMA and a forgiving wife!

As it was past midday, John & I hightailed it back via Grafton & Casino whilst the 990 got put on a trailer.

It was a bit of a shame the ride ended prematurely, but it was a hoot! Thanks guys - the roads we didn't cover mean we've got a good excuse to head down there again sometime!

Very nice

That looks to be a very nice run - got some ideas to meet a mate based in Kyogle now. I hope the big Kato made it home and has been resuscitated?

Thanks for sharing.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

Yeah racca it got a bit cold on saturday night. My feet were freezing stickin out the hole in the midgets tent that Kmart sold me. But the best weekend weather wise for a long time . The bike ktm got trailered home ,still waiting for a report there. My guess was a crook stator as it would stop as soon as the jumper leads were taken off . More off roady tyres for me next time and a longer tent

Well the guy from NRMA got it running by jump starting off a truck battery and confirmed it was charging ok. I rode it about half a kay and it stated to splutter, the instruments just started sweeping and lights flashing, as soon as I pulled up it stalled and died. NRMA towed me 50km to Grafton and my wife drove a 850km round trip with the trailer to get me home. Dropped it off to be checked out at the bikeshop and came back a week later - negative battery terminal loose! Brought it home, started perfectly, rode it 2km and it's happened again!! (same symptoms at least, i haven't checked the battery yet) So now it's just sitting in the corner of the shed like a naughty little boy.

B0mb3r,
I'll email you the trip logs next time i get on the PC (hopefully I don't forget - remind me if I do!)

The pics only go part way to show how good the weather was and how fantastic the roads are down that way - many more yet to explore!!

Cheers

Great RR. My 950 sounds like it is doing the same thing. Has he solved the problem yet.
