I have to throw in my 1972 Guzzi Eldorado for the best sounding stock pipes. Nice growl and able to be heard.

TZ750 (or any racing 4-cyl 2-stroke, actually) - nothing like that bunch of firecrackers sound.

Guzzis and Ducatis all sound pretty good to me. There's something about a 90-degree vee twin (and whining bevel drives or gear-drive cams on an RC-51 add something too). Vincents ain't bad sounding either.

I always wanted a CBX six with a nice 6-2-1 on it. Run hard, it sounds like someone tearing paper through a megaphone. I guess any 600cc sportbike has more beats per second these days but they're still missing something that the six has. Maybe the new BMW has some of that. Famous Honda 250/6 had it all and then some - what an incredible-sounding machine! You're hardly likely to come across one at the local bike night, however. The old Laverda Jota had an awesome bellow to it (not VERY likely to see one of those on the road these days either I suppose)

Open/drag pipes just for the sake of it are simply obnoxious unless they're on something with the right cadence. Even then, on the street, they turn me off just because they're so anti-social.

BMW boxers all remind me of a lawnmower (I have a lawnmower with a boxer engine too). Those flat-twins have many great attributes but exhaust note isn't one of them.

ducatis sound better than any bikes, as long as you have the termis on. and then, the air-cooled 2-valves sound best.

but panigale sounds best stock. no need for aftermarket!

A late /2 or early /5. A six year old could kick it over while his parents friends have a quiet conversation in the driveway, never knowing it's idling.

Or he could push the button on the 502 Boss Hoss in the garage!
