I was thinking about waiting till next spring to get one.

I'm not crazy about the color options. I want my bike to pop a little more.

And I suspect they may deal with the speedo issue as soon as next year.

my opinion, it should be a factory recall and have it back lit better. not sure if it classifies as a safety issue

I'm not crazy about the stock speedo either.
I could see adding something like this VDO piece to give it more of a steampunk look anyway. It's electronic already and backlit well enough.
I wouldn't see the point of a tach, until I started doing some hot rodding.

the spedo and the way it mounts are what bugs me.
you cannot put different risers without doing something with the spedo.....it is just in the way.
i'm not a fabricator so i need bolt on stuff.

a set of mini guages like the ones available for the bonnie would be better.

So, just change the bars and forget risers. That's the simplest bolt on solution. The bars are a standard diameter and there are a million permutations to be purchased at about 40-50 bucks a pop.

There are also a number of speedo relocation mounts available to move a speedo from the riser mount. Some later sportster models have this same issue and many opt for the Joker Machine speedo relocation to the upper fork leg, off to the side and out of the way to clean up the steering head area. There's also a half dozen other speedo mounts on the market. Measure the gauge diameter and check the size for which the mount is intended.

I like it too. Solves most of the major problems with the 48.

Ok, here we go. At the risk of offending all Boltistas (of which I was one), I finally made it down to the city and saw a black, base model in person. (Let me preface this by saying that I loved the pics and videos of this bike, and thought for sure an r-spec would be my next ride). The right side of this bike IS HIDEOUS! I walked in, and they had it sitting there up against a posterboard Bolt display with the exhaust side facing out, and the first thing that came to my head was "WHAT THE FUCK!?" This is all subjective, and I don't mean to piss off those who still love this thing and those who have bought it, but I was completely turned off. All of the shit tacked onto the right side of the bike makes it look like some kind of weird, cheap, fuck, I don't know . . . cheap weirdo?

The strap across the battery box is ugly, the heat shields are ugly, the air cleaner is huge and ugly, and the muffler is ugly. If the bolt had a dog, the dog would be ugly. The mechanicals may be better than the Iron 883, but the Iron is infinitely classier/more beautiful. There really isn't a bad line on the bike (as evidenced by the pic a few posts up).

It doesn't stop with the looks though. Sitting on this thing while on its stand with both feet up on the pegs was one of the more awkward sitting-on-a-motorcycle-at-a-dealership experiences for me. I don't know how to explain it, it was just odd. The thing is too wide, the airbox too big, and the pegs are in a funny spot (I'm 5'6" with short legs, and have ridden an '08 Ninja 250 for the last five years, which I fit great on).

Sitting directly across from the bolt was one of these:

Honda Shadow Phantom. Looked five times better, sat five times better, hell, even tipping it felt five times lighter.

I don't know maaaaan, I really liked the Bolt. I'm disappointed as all hell. I post very rarely, so, it just goes to show how strongly I felt about seeing it today that I would get off my lazy ass and write this diatribe.

I will judge for myself when I get an opportunity to test-sit a Bolt in a few weeks time ... can't wait to see one up close and personal ...

The "Euro" 883 Iron pic'd above is GORGEOUS!!!

BTW, the Shadow Phantom is a beautiful Bike too ... having recently picked up a pre-owned '06 VT750DC, I am pleasantly surprized how smooth and easy handling the 750 Spirit is for a Cruiser!

Hey, that's why they make Fords and Chevies, bowlingbalhead.

There's something for everyone.

This is the BOLT thread, right?
Found myself shopping for bikes yesterday. The Sportster 1200C really "spoke" to me. Holiday weekend so the shop closed at noon. I arrived at about 11:30 and they wouldn't take a deposit because there was no time to do the paperwork. I was buying, I like it that much.
So, I wanders off the the Honda/Yamaha dealer. Looked at the CB1100. Didn't like it at all.
Then my eyes wandered over to the BOLT. In white. HAS to be the UGLIEST motorcycle I have EVER seen. EVER. The fit and finish is at best pitiful. The tank edge is horrid. No smooth lines anywhere. Compared it in my mind to the fit and finish of the 1200C you can't. Reminiscent of the old Suzuki Savage. Matter of fact, it would suit a thumper.....SR500 power plant?

I would have a easier time believing your story if you hadn't led off with " A bike salesman didn't have time to take my money"
So the rest it just as unbelievable
