My KTM 690R Back home

Only recently I bought a new bike. The funny thing is I have not ridden it yet!!
I bought this 2012 KTM 690R first rego in September while I have been down here and had my parents pick it up for me the other day and will store it till I get home. Im lucky as I have another mechanic in the family to check it out for me.
I always said I would be doing a RTW trip once I returned from down here. I bought this bike because it only had 1000km on it and it had a couple of extras already on it. I have always liked KTM's
The owner bought it brand new and then lost his job so in some way I feel bad for him though his loss is my gain!. I have ordered all the gear I require to turn it into a great adventure bike. I ordered from Rally Raid in the UK front tank, fairing, radiator guard and screen, rear tank, soft laggage racks and a bunch more gear that will be sitting at home waiting for me to fit when I get back. My plan is to fly over to South America and travel right around it then ride north to Alaska.

Also Ill post up some pictures from this weekends little trip we did out to one of the field huts "Watts Hut" once my camera has de frosted!!!! I normally seal up my camera in a bag and let it warm up slowly so it does not get condensation inside it. So maybe tomorrow if im not to busy Ill put the photos. I have some great pictures of the frozen lakes we managed to get to!.

Here is my new toy. Only been at my parents place a week.

I had the privilege of going to Antarctica this past Feb. 2103 and it was beyond words or photos. Seeing the things you see on a daily basis is incredible. Thanks for sharing.

Watts Hut

I had the weekend off as one of the other guys did the machine opps. (Opps are the checks we have to do every couple hours on the machines running the power house)
It gave me and 3 others a chance to try get back up to Watts Hut. Its about a 20km drive on the sea ice then up a fjord. Once you reach the end of the fjord you cross over a land bridge onto a fresh water lake. The lake is solid ice and quite possibly one of the most amazing things I have seen!!! While standing on the ice you hear mighty booms and the ground moves!!! Its the ice releasing pressure and makes these massive cracks!!! It bloody well scares the f#$k out of you as well!!!!
Once we reached the hut we settled in and got our selfs warm. Later once the sun went down we went back up onto the lake to get some night pictures of the frozen lake.

Here are a couple pictures from the trip.

The ice was like cement!!! It took ages to drill through it!!

The ice is that clear you can see the ground 40meters below!!!

I like the "donuts" in Antarctica picture. Not many people get to do that.

Low Fog

We had a little bit of fog today. It is very uncommon to get fog because of the very low temps.

What kind of ATVs are they and how old? They look like Honda's but I'm not sure with how covered up they are.

This may be my new favorite thread in the day trippers section! Keep the media coming! I'm so inspired right now - I've got to figure out how to get down there.

Our day to day work horses are the very reliable (Everything has a hard time at anything below -25c!!!) Honda TRX420's. We have a couple of Can Am 800's outlanders with quad tracks for up at the plateau as well. The 420's replaced the old 350's beginning of 2011. Some have over 600Hrs on them now.
