Ktm adv wiring question

Is there a circuit on the 950 that cuts out when the starter is engaged?
On some bikes it is the headlight circuit that cuts out when you press the starter button.
I have a small power line running up to my tank bag that is fused and is switched by a relay.
I want to power the relay from a circuit that is off when the starter is activated.
Any ideas?

My bike is a 2005.5 KTM 950 adventure.

Nope. I know of no curcuit that cuts out when cranking. You could then buy the euro headlight switch ( some jap bikes use the same switch as well, and it's cheaper, although the connector is not a direct plugin ), that way you can switch the circuit with the position or the headlight switch.

You can easily wire a relay into the start circuit, use a normally closed pair of contacts. When the relay is energised it breaks the contacts.

Go across the red wire and yellow wire of the start auxilliary relay

So the only time the relay gets power is when you crank over the motor?
I have to ask...

Why? What is the application for such a momentary pulse of energy?

He wants to do the exact opposite. My guess would be to protect electronics from a power surge while the bike is cranking.

If that is the case why not have the solenoid triggered by the ACC2 circuit IIRC which is only powered when the bike is running.
If power spikes are what your worried about a 12vdc surge protector could be plumbed inline with the output side of the relay.

I know they some stuff like that in model train stores etc.

I have my LED's GPS and heated grips all running through a relay that is triggered by the ACC2 circuit, and spikes etc don't seem to be an issue. Been running it like this since day 1.

I also think the latency between the ACC circuit and the solenoid being triggered helps to isolate the items from the spikes.

Normally closed relay is the best "automatic" option..
