Question Seat Lock - Assistance required

Hi Folks,

I have a 2010 990R Adv & having issues with the seat lock. Yesterday after a long time decided to check the toolkit to make sure I had all the tools before I headed out on a long weekend trip.

Unfortunately I was unable to open the lock. The key was'nt going in all the way. I tried using penetrating oil, but had no luck. I'm gonna try again this evening & see if I could get lucky.

If you have any ideas or suggestions please let me know.

Thanks...

Make sure nothing under the seat is pushing upward and into the seat pan. Upward pressure creates a very stiff key turn. Try pushing down on the seat while turning the key.

(Disclaimer, this works on my SE that has a keyed seat latch, YMMV)

I had same prob. Did not get manual from PO.turn key one way locks glove box. Turn other unlocks seat.dang near ripped bike apart to figure this out.then put wolfmans on witth the buckle under the seat and wedged the lock. Try sitting on the seat and bouncing on it while turning key. Gently. Keys are 100 $ each and 4-6weeks out. Good luck

I had the exact same problem 2 weeks ago on my 2009 990R. My mechanic pal squirted in some graphite spray and put the key in and tapped it with a rubber mallet and eventually it cleared up and worked fine.

Is it an aftermarket seat? I bought a used Corbin seat for mine and I'm still in the process of shimming the rear pin to the proper dimension so the key will turn easily; the amount that this pin go into the "locking" hole on the bike seems to be a critical factor in getting the key to turn easily.

Thumb Finally got the job done....

Folks I finally managed to get the seat lock opened after so many days
A big big thank you to "yawningfungus". The graphite spray & a rubber mallet did the job.

What a relief
