ate calipers

hi all,i have a set of ate calipers on my 78 r100/7 and they rattle all the time even though all bolts are tight and the pads have the retaining pins in place.my question is ,is this normal that the pads rattle on the disc when driving along.obviously they dont do it when i brake so is there a problem or maybe a specific way to set them up.otherwise they work fine.

There is a spring on the outer pad and an o-ring on the inner (piston) pad to keep the pads in place. The calipers and pads should not rattle. Also, this question would be better answered in the airheads sub group.

What Stan said. I've never had mine rattle - squeal sometimes, but never rattle.

That can't be good for the 'wings' on the slider and may be hammering grooves in it.

I have never had any rattle, but I had an old 90 that would whistle a tune that strangely enough sounded like Yankee Doodle Dandy.
