Should I carry a gallon of each? I don't want to over pack and a gallon of either weighs around 7 pounds I am planning on exploring and camping on the Gaspe peninsula for a week.

Gasoline is 6 lbs a gallon, water is 8. We use a Katadyn "hiker pro" water filter and fill bladders with water if dry camping. Of course, setting up camp next to clean flowing water is the best idea. Figure a liter per day per person, more if it's hot. I don't know the area you're in, but my guess is you run out of fuel before you run out of water...

The Gaspésie (official name), or Gaspé Peninsula, the Gaspé or Gaspesia, is a peninsula along the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada.

I didn't know where it was either.

I'm with the filter and bladder guy. :)

There's no shortage of water in the Gaspe and wasn't when I first went in '73, last visited in '91.

For that matter . . . it's pretty hard to be without filterable water in Canada unless you go very far north . . . and it's solid. :)
