That's astonishing. That just proves how inhuman he really is, because in normal races if you have a 30 second head start, that means you have no chance to catch the leaders.....

No corrected times. You want to start in the first wave?...qualify faster. Most guys after first group don't care about time, just finishing the most sections.

Watching the coverage and the announcer states that "a lot of the guys are running COKE and water" in reference to what was in their camelbaks. Is that some sort of joke or is it some sort of extreme enduro secret for keeping glucose and sodium levels up?

It's a South African thing! Darryl mentioned it.
The water removes the CO2 and it quenchers a thirst really well.
But the taste stays in the camelbak for quite some time. It works for me.
