Fantastic report, I was in France a year ago (http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=725369) ... and now you just made want to go back. Right. Now.
Thanks Julien, I drooled over your report when I was planning this extravaganza. Pyrenees are the BEST! I spent a couple of summers near Ceret bicycle riding. The place we rented had an ST2 parked in the garage. I almost fell over when I saw it. Well, a couple of rides latter I was a goner! It's what led to this report. To bad the Moto-Tour has never been down there. I'm actually starting to have second thoughts about riding this year's edition. I mean, 760 km. of back roads in one day best's their previous record of 716! If it rains? Bloodbath and beyond!

You drooled over my report? Well, your report started a bunch of flashbacks from my time in France! The circle is complete!
I'd lvove to do the DDMT, but don't think I'll have my shit together by this September. 2014 sounds more realistic.

760km is a lot on those roads. Most of my day trips were ~500km, and I was drained by the end of it.

Thanks for the report, I had found it a couple months ago but didn't read it yet. Now that I have, I've gotten more certain I want to try it next year (2014). I have the perfect bike, I'll just have to add lights and a roadbook holder (and learn how to read said roadbook...)

Cruising on up to Paris the "back way". I started to notice that the symptoms of the loose engine mounts we're back. I was keeping my eye out for a shop to tighten them. But they were all either out to lunch, on vacation, or this or that. On the road out of Bourges a sign caught my eye and I decided to turn around and check it out.
I'm looking around thinking, hey, this place looks like the real deal..........then I realize that the bike on the bench is Mathieu Gines' who took 2nd place in the Moto Tour. Cool. It's the home of Tecmas Racing. They gave me a tour of their impressive operation including some really radical suspension set ups. In the mean time their mechanics tightened up the mounts and I was soon on my way. Thanks guys!

So here's the video of the trip from Lempaut to Paris. I gave myself three leisurely days to get there. Spent the first night in Aubusson then Sancerre where I had the most satisfying meal of the entire trip.

Parental advisory, this video contains; high speeds, hopelessly romantic music.
Sorry!

I rode for over 10 hours over local roads in croatia today and covered not even 500km. 700km is crazy :) Granted, luggage slows you down, and traveling isn't rallying, not even leisurely.

I'm still in for 2014. I love some dirt :)

I did similar rides, though easier, when I was in my 20ies, and liked them a lot. But somehow I now feel too old for that. But I enjoyed your RR a lot, thanks and congrats!

Pissed They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger...

This was their practice run for the following night.............

Not even one day! Not even 100 miles! And I have an estimate for $3000. of repairs! What the........... going home from a nice dinner at night on a tiny back road. Let's see how the lights work and wham, a deer charges out of the bushes and runs head first straight into my right calf. Man that HURT. Amazingly I stayed up. Took me a few minutes to decide if my leg was broken or not. I was having to reach over the bike with my left hand to hold all the flapping plastic bits on. Made it home and put some ice packs on and watched it blow up like a balloon.

I'm trying to convince some friends to join with me for 2014 but a recurring question that pops up is how much it costs (not bike prep and all, just enlisting for the rally). do you have any idea?

Tarifs:
DDMT 1250 €
DDMT en formule Solo 2200 €. It went up 200 € this year (:-(
Course dans la course Alès/Toulon 290 €

You also have to buy insurance and a 200 € refundable deposit on the transponder
