@John - I think that's the whole idea behind the USB cable: to let users set their own amperage.

However, now I'm confused about the price... $200 for the unit + $40 for the cable or does $200 get you the unit AND the cable? Also, $40 for the USB cable?? Seriously? Is it made by Monster Cables... can you post the pic of the cable?

Not sure what's so funny? If you think spending $40 on a USB cable (that costs under $.20 to produce and sells for under $3) is reasonable to you, then I have plenty of shit to sell you...

Don't believe me?

Easy, easy.

It was a joke about the photography services I offer.

Shhhhh. It's ok.

It looks like they could not find a way to use a standard USB cable connector on the PDM60 end (mini, micro, etc.), so they probably had to pay someone to tool up a special one. Given that they only sell a few thousand of these gadgets, they probably aren't making any killing - even at $40 per.

I am curious as to why a simple mini-USB wouldn't have worked. You have the problem of making it waterproof either way.

Hey Rowe guys - fess up!

Regardless - the new one is still on my "wanna have" list......

From the RocketMoto website: "With custom programming, the current capacity of each circuit, up to 15Amps maximum, can be can be adjusted in .25A (1/4AMP) increments to meet your specific requirements."

If I can truly get a single channel at 20 amps - it may be worth the upgrade!
Correct. The latest firmware permits one 20A circuit. Does not increase the 60A max for the entire unit though. If you have a PDM60 that was sold prior to about February, we'll update the firmware for you at no charge, other than return postage. The firmware update also enable the USB cable programming.

We'll update our description on the site - thanks for catching that.

We will send you a $3 USB cable. If you can figure out how to make that work, we'll pay you $10 each. That's a whole lot less than we pay to Rowe and you'll make a fortune on these.

The PDM60 was never intended to be end-user programmable. These are programmed with a PIC debugger at the factory (or dealer), and it's not USB on output of the PIC-IT tool. That's the reason behind the non-USB header programming connector on the PDM60, and the new cable is not just a plain ol' USB cable. Perhaps on the next version of PDM60, whenever that is, the programming interface will be different. I've provided some input in this regard.

Hope that helps.

We'll update any Version 2 PDM60 - regardless of where it was purchased, to the new USB cable compatible firmware, for the cost of return postage.

Stebel problem solved: dumb-ass can't count!

I figured out my problem and can now wake the neighbors easily with my Stebel running through the PDM60. I had mis-wired the main connector (mine is the earlier version). I had the red wire (Circuit #4 - 15 amps) stuck in the hole for Circuit #3, which is only 5 amps!! So - I was just repeating my previous failure of trying to get 20 amps by combining a 5 and a 15: Andre-Marie Ampere will simply not allow this to work. I now have Circuits #1 and #4 properly tied together allowing two 15-amp circuits to feed a 17-20 amp load. All is good.

It also confirms Rowe's decision to eliminate the connector altogether: customer failure mode avoidance!!!

The PDM60 is the way to go - assuming you can follow directions!

I've got some Gerbing's heated gloves and a jacket liner that I want to hook through the PDM60. Should I leave the fuse in the system, or does the PDM60 take the place of the fuse?

Also, with the PDM60, do I still need to run a relay for an aftermarket horn, or will the PDM60 handle it once I've programmed a 20AMP circuit?

Thanks!

Gerbings: The PDM60 takes the place of the fuse - that's the idea.
Horn: The horn button on my 1200GS is not setup to carry 20 amps of current - so I used a relay. PDM60 current to the horn via a relay switched by the horn button.
