Knife blades are available from a number of sources . . . . check out Texas Knifemaker's Supply (can't supply a link from work) . . . .

Thanks guys. And Bomber, thanks for the recommendation. I know there are lots of places that will sell you blanks, but knives are one of the very few things where you really DO get what you pay for. A cheap knife is worthless!

Nice MiteyF!

I've been playing with knife scales lately too. Here's a Wharncliff blade with burl locust scales, and Cripple Creek turquoise inlaid in the spine:

And another fixed blade with Nephrite jade scales, and the spine inlaid with tigereye and black jade:

Here's yet another thread that may interest you. Lots of talk in there about blades and various ready-made knives of all kinds.

More importantly, Smithy, who contributes loads to that thread, is a great source for one-of a kind custom made blades, made by an inmate. Check out this one. He plans for scales made from burl ironwood.

+1 on Texas Knife supplies. They also do a wide range of scales and materials.
Blades are not up to Smithys custom standards obviously!

Well without the money (or permanent residence) for the equipment to live up to Smithy (not to mention the raw talent!), I'll just have to keep at my handle making I suppose.

Cowboy, those are lovely! A nice, smaller fixed blade will be my next project. As if I don't have enough knives already

Been planning on doing this for a couple of years now, finally got around to knocking it out.

Peeled off the extra vinyl and had this left.

Used a little bit of contact paper to transfer this piece over,

The rest were just stuck on by eyeballing it.

Before:

After!

Not to bad for eyeballin it!

Now to do the other side.

I made this to zero in my new Air rifle. Its just 2x4 outdoor timber with a couple of wall hooks and 3 x 7" coach bolts for legs.

Works ok for little outlay
