How is this any different from the "instant cred panniers" we so often see sold on the flea market. The stickers tell the story of the rider (and the bike to a degree). I might think it would honest to say "oh I went there on my old bike" if asked, but really if you have a story to go with the sticker tell it. If someone gives you shit for having a sticker from a previous bike give them the salute and tell them to "Stick It".

I figure it's your bike, decorate it the way you want. I don't put stickers on my bike any more. I'm more into refriderator magnets these days. If some one is standing in my kitchen and wants to ask me about where I've been then it's probably OK. If some one want's to start a conversation at a gas station based on a sticker on my bike I'm usually not too interested. I'm kind of grumpy like that.

Take pics of your bike. Laminate the pics and carry them in your tank bag.

Yeah... Me too. The GS LC and solo rider are an absolute magnet. Rethinking the whole sticker thing....

Me too, that's why these are the only stickers on my bike...

If I get new panniers/bike I start over with new decals. I only get place decals not product.

The dealer told me someone bought my old 1150GS in part because of the decals!

I've had to part with my 'Dust to Dawson', 'Alaska Hwy', 'Chicken AK', 'Mama Espinosa's' and 'Monarch Pass'......those I miss the most.

Right now I only have ADV and California 2

As for as where I've been, ask and I'll show you the photos...no stickers.
You need one of my stickers!

Stickers...

I think the current owner of that bike kept the pannier stickers. I'll have to look closer next time I see him. I kept the license plate and of course the LOST sticker on the back of my helmet. Hope Finn replenishes his stock before I have to replace my helmet.

Stickers stay with me

My first BMW was an '04 1150 GS Adventure. My 2nd and 3rd BMWs were '04 1150 (std.) GS. These bikes have about 15,000 miles on them when purchased and get replaced at about 75,000 miles. Each time I mount the adventure tank and Jesse bags that were on bike #1 so the stickers from bike #1 end up on #2, #3 and will be on #4 which I'll be getting in about 4 weeks.
There is satisfaction in seeing the dent in my adventure tank when it was on #1 from the White Rim Trail 5 years ago along with the old stickers, scratches and battle scars that 3 bikes have collected from all the adventures and travels.
Very seldom do I get comments or questions regarding stickers.
Dents, scratches and old stickers are part of what make a GS.
I'm just not impressed with clean shiny new bikes.
BOTTOM LINE: your bike, do whatever turns you on

All the stickers on my old air head are on the inside of the Krausers. They're for my enjoyment, not to impress others.

Kinda like Izzy I've had my Jesse's on several 12GS's. Stickers are from the countries I've ridden in. My new GS hasn't been to them all but the bags have.
Not to impress, when I look at the stickers it brings back great memories.

Part of me really wants to say, "Wtf??!! A thread about . . . stickers?? For fuck's sake.

On the other hand, I hear ya. My answer is: there is no "rule." FFS. If you were there, put the sticker on. Stickers are for the rider, not the bike. You do what the hell you want. Who gives a shit, they're not combat ribbons, etc.
