I am under the impression that the four leading canoes are filled with (basically) professional Tahitians paddlers.

(PS White Rd was too wet so I moved to a "drier clime")

Laupahoehoe to Keokea today, Keokea to Kawaihae tomorrow and Kawaihae to Kona on Friday, $50K purse, 19 teams I believe and Full On Bitchin!

Last year's race http://vimeo.com/39451660
Pretty freakin cool! Scary looking but cool.

Funnily enough living in this place has showed me my one big fear. It's It's being on a boat on the open ocean. Great fear to have living on an island right? I guess I'm a mountain man at heart. I spend a ton of time all over Mauna Kea here.

IVs, they're not just for Hangovers!!!

Yep, that's what those guys do for a living, the Olamau kind of caters to them by scheduling the Olamau when the Tahitians can make it, we have some incredible waterman here in Hawaii but it's just a "Leisure" sport for them....

Did you used to ride Mud Lane? Seriously fun single track in that area!

I grew up on the North Shore of Oahu and surfed all through highschool, work, and then college, I've paddled pretty much every coast of the Big Isle and I also ran my own boat out of Hilo fishing Ika Shibi (Night time handline Tuna fishing for 100+ lbs Yellow Fin) so I'm comfortable on the ocean.

Scariest thing I ever did on H2O was paddle down the Rhine River past the Lorelei in Germany, that water was just plain freaky!!!

Haha see and I used to free float down crazy rapids and river surf in stuff that should have killed me. I guess it's all what you grow up with. :

Flew from Maui to Big Island this weekend and rented some great bikes from Jason at www.hiadv.com
Met up with Speedmonkey on Saturday and we all did a ride from Kona to Waipio Valley. Took some fun back road trails on Mud Road and had a blast!

Next time Id love to ride Mana Rd and explore the Hilo side a bit. Always fun exploring new territory

Hey Mendo, yeah it was fun meeting and riding with you guys! Great day and those cliffs we found and the road in Waipio you showed us were just icing on the cake. You guys definitely have to check out Mana road and Skyline road when you ce back. Here is the one shot I got.

Yep ! Check out the Hakalau Gulch park next time you're in the area. They've fixed it up real nice. Took a ride up Mauna Kea today. Beautiful clear skies with the usual afternoon clouds.

I was on vacation in Maui the end of June. We had gone up to the summit of Haleakala in a car to watch the sunset and supermoon rise. I was really looking forward to making the trip up again when I rented a bike for the day. My brother-in-law rented an Electra Glide and I got a V-Strom. I also rented a GoPro to try to record some of the fun. Unfortunately that was the only day in the 14 I was there that it really rained. We rode out the road toward Hana a while. It was dry there, so we decided to try to get up Haleakala and get above the clouds where it looked clear. We headed up in a light shower and by the time we got up into the switchbacks it was pouring, though the road was still pretty fun. When we got up around 4,000 feet visibility was so bad we gave up and turned back.

I ended up going out to Kahakuloa Village the morning before I returned the bike in Kaanapali, that was a lot of fun. I put 250 miles on the bike in 24 hours, though.

The humidity fogged the GoPro lens some, but I got some good photos and video, I'll see if I find anything good to post.
