Actually, it will be really easy for KTM. They OWN the US 2t market and routinely sellout their allocation of 2t machines.

There were many that thought e-start 2t was stupid. Turns out, they sell quite well.

My own experience with direct injection outboards has not been great. So I don't know if I am ready to experiment with it on a motorcycle yet. I am no Luddite. I dig EFI in my cars and I would love for my next four stroke bike to be injected. But I just don't know if the technology for two stroke offroad bikes is robust enough for serious abuse yet.

It can sure be frustrating in outboards. They run great new but don't age well at all. And, to me, the whole point of a two stroke is simplicity. Throw a new top end on the thing for a few bucks every couple of years and they run forever. Add on a couple of pumps, a couple of injectors plus a bunch of sensors and that simplicity is gone.

Of course, the up side is the possibility of a 49 or 50 state legal two stroke EXC.

The latest issue of Dirt Bike magazine has a good editorial on whats involved in an injected 2 stroke. Its not as simple as putting an injector in the intake,or even the head. Basic injection works but isnt THAT much cleaner running in a 2 stroke. It gets complicated with the oil in gas issue, separate oil for crank bearings, etc, etc. It can be done and probably would have to be done to green sticker a 2 stroke.

But,like the short lived 250MX 4 strokes of today, the breed should improve with years of messing around with it

Since KTM kept Husaberg around primarily to use as a test bed for unproven tech, I'd hazard a guess that the first Euro direct injected two strokes will now be red and black(Husqvarna). Just a guess.
