definitely let me know when you are ready... I have the route from the border of Costa Rica to the border of Honduras all figured out with approximately 90% dirt and tons of river crossings

Hi Mike

Happy to hear your are coming down to Nicaragua to ride!

I just checked your ADV profile and you qualify for a free 1 week rental if you don't mind riding a 2 stroke 175cc bike. If you prefer a 4-stroke then we'll try to give you a discount.

We look forward to your visit in Nica!
SalCar

I rented the 125cc from Salcar in Nica and it was awesome. Great country and great bike to get around on while in Nica.

Followup: My friend and I did find 400cc Honda NX4 Falcons for rent in Costa Rica, and we had a great time on both pavement and dirt roads. We rented the bikes from motoscostarica.com and they do allow border crossings with them. However, we unfortunately ended up not being able to cross into Nicaragua because there was a tiny mistake on the paperwork (an incorrect date), and it was the day after Christmas so there was no way to get it fixed. We ended up spending the whole three weeks riding around Costa Rica instead of splitting the time between C.R. and Nicaragua. Oh well, could have been worse!

Thank you for the feedback!

I forgot to mention on this thread that we have a special to give back to Advriders.

Traveling to nicaragua July 13-29. Need to find somewhere where I can rent decent dirt bikes or atvs. Have ridden before and can handle most engines. Please let me know if there are any contacts in the San Juan del sur area.

Panchogarrancho, I see you may be of help. I also speak Spanish.

I can vouch for Sal. He's a very, very cool guy. A few years ago (6? 8?) he was featured in the BMWMOA magazine for his epic (18,000 miles?) ride around Central and South America. And then he went and donated tons of time and $$$ to getting healthcare providers into remote areas.

Here's his fb page: https://www.facebook.com/nicamotoadv

Also go to Grenada and have fish cheeks.

My buddy and I did our trip in Costa Rica, but we weren't able to cross into Nicaragua due to an incorrect date on the paperwork -- and it was the day after Christmas so there was no way to get it fixed. That's OK, Costa Rica was superb, and we did end up finding a pair of Honda NX-4 Falcons to rent (which was my first choice of bike). The place was motoscostarica.com .

I'm reviving this thread because we're planning to go back in April to finally see a bit of Nicaragua. Does anyone have any good suggestions for finding a pair of smaller rental bikes in Nicaragua for about two weeks? As with our Costa Rica trip, neither of us is interested in big BMWs or KLR650s or anything like that. To me, something along the lines of the Honda CRF250L seems about right. (BTW, Salcar's site doesn't appear to be active anymore.)

Hi Craig,
I just checked the site and it still up and running. Please try again and let me know if it is not working. We have 125cc, 175cc and 200cc and recently added the Suzuki DR650cc which are smaller than the KLRs or BMWs. We currently have the largest fleet and newer bikes in Nicaragua.
Feel free to email me at salvador (at) nicamoto.com
all the best!
