Hey, anybody know a good dirt road or trail to get to the west side of 37 in Traverse City?

From your house head south from the top of holiday hills via the 2 track that eventually crosses supply road. You will be on Muncie lake rd at this point. Keep going on Muncie lake rd till you hit Brown bridge rd. then turn right. Follow that to garfield and turn left then right on blair town hall. At the top of the hill go right on the snowmobile trail and follow it back to blair town hall. Take blair town hall across 37 to county rd 633 and turn left. Go south 3 miles and turn right on Youker Rd. Follow Youker to State Park Highway. At this point Turn right to go to Interlochen or left to further your adventure.
If you choose left follow state park to the stop sign take a right then a quick left on karlin rd then another right at the power lines. Follow the power lines to Davis rd or keep going if you want a challenge! When you go right on Davis this will take you across nessen city rd and up to hall creek rd go right and follow to betsie river rd then turn left.
Hope this helps!

Well, that is specific enough for me.

Riding Tip o' the Mitt - Emmet County/Tomahawk/Burt Lake region

Hi all,
I posted this in the regional threads, too.
I'm an ADVRider member from NE Ohio and my wife and I will be vacationing near Pellston, MI in a cabin on Douglas Lake (15 miles south of Mackinaw) the week of Sept. 15th. I'm generally familiar with the area as my family have been renting cabins at the lake since my mother was a wee tot, and she just turned 90. But in all the years I've been up there I've never taken an off road bike along. Well this year that changes.
I'm bringing up both my Buell Ulysses and CRF230L. The plan is to do a couple day rides around Emmet County and/or south of Burt Lake on the MCCCT and Tomahawk trails with the 230. The Buell is for an overnight trip with the wife to Munising and the Pictured Rock Lakeshore.
FYI. I've been riding on and off road for 35+ years. Been thru Honda, Yamaha, Bultaco and Sherco trials bikes and rode a few events (novice A & intermediate classes). Around here we mostly ride county roads (dirt) and a few trails, because there aren't any public riding areas other than a few MX tracks. I'm not a full-on, hard-core off-roader, more interested in just fun trail and back road riding than blasting thru the woods WFO (see, CRF230L). Dirt background is mostly trials and dual sport. Had an NX650 for a long time, but it was kind of a pig on trails (I'm not a big guy) and I was always worried about busting up the plastic, so I sold it to get the 230.
I don’t have an off road GPS so I'll probably rely on county and DNR ORV maps. Still, rather than go it alone, I'd like to ride with folks who are familiar with the territory. It'll be more fun and safer that way. So if anybody from up that way is interested, let me know and we'll work out some details.
See ya,
Kevin

Yeah MI

Welcome up to Northern MI, that riding is a bit north of my Traverse City riding area, that being said I was born and raised in NE Ohio (Akron/Youngstown) and the riding up here is so much better. Tons of dirt roads and seasonal roads you can ride. The MCCCT tends to be sandy in a lot of areas so be prepared for the loose sandy stuff.

Cheers

I have friends up by Travis City, but they've got a "feets forward" cruiser. I'm down in New Philadelphia OH. We don't ride north of here much, too much traffic and westward is flatland. The best riding in Ohio is anywhere from here east or south. The paved state and county roads are smooth, free of traffic, twisted and hilly. Great fun on the Buell. And the township roads are either old broken pavement, gravel or dirt 2-track CRF territory. But, I'm really looking forward to riding in Michigan!

Hi all,
I am in East Jordan. I ride a XR 650L. I like riding the Jordan River roads, I don't know much else as I am new up here. I think we need a meet and greet place on Saturday mornings kinda like the Common Grounds thing in G.R..
It's a sad day - I sold my Moto Guzzi LeMans. I think I may need separation therapy. I will feel better when I find a 1200 GS.

suggested N. Mich back roads (dirt) or 2 tracks for a Vstrom?

Hey guys, I just picked up a 06 Vstrom 1000 last weekend and want to get out on it with the wife this weekend. Around Atlanta, (east of Gaylord 32 miles) seems everything ends up with deep sand so am hoping to find some enjoyable routes with less sand.

My off road skills are great when on a lightweight 2 stroke like my KTM. Somehow, doubling the weight of the bike, adding 750cc, and running tires that are closer to slicks than my favorite S12s seems to make it a bit more of a challenge. (not to mention dear wifey reminding me I had never...ever better drop the bike when she is on the back! ).

And if any of you would like to get a ride in together sometime this fall, let me know. I hope to get some miles in before snow flies!
