990 Adventure Fuel Consumption

I know this is probably somewhere else on here but...

I put akros on the baby (2011 990 with R-map - but not the akro map)

It was poor before... but this is really poor. My fuel light goes on at 100 miles or even 91miles if I give it some stick around London. So unless I've calculated wrong - I am getting 28mpg in town!

5000 miles on the clock. Would love to improve the mileage but don't want to lose the Akros. Any ideas?

Hi
I have got down to about 100-130mls per tank with Akras and the old Akra map . It uses way too much fuel. I have had a custom map done by Chris at X-Bikes (using TuneBoy) .Even with a CPR filter and Akras I can now get over 150 miles to the tank more power and very smooth now. Though blasting around town it would be less.

Thats bad!

My good buddy chris and I have a pair of 990s. Mine is bog standard with factory cans and with a steady pace on a run with full panniers I will get 200 miles before the light comes on. Chris is running Akroprovics but we dont know about any re maps. He gets at least 35 miles less when we run side by side same riding style and gearing. So We would be very intersted to share your findings. We had wondered if his smaller screen was not helping. If mine did 100 to a tank I would push it in the bushes!

In my experience, the Akro's with the Akro map yield an average mileage of 10 miles per liter which is just on 38 mpg. You have 20 liters so my light generally comes on sooner than the 4 liters remaining spec. YMMV

40+

On my '11 990-R with Lexx cans and the stock map + the usual mods (Uni pre-filter breather, SAS-ectomy, etc) I can get 45 MPG riding solo, no gear and no wheel spin ... usually get 38-40.

I'm using the PowerTripp Wings map. All stock '12 dakar, except for FMF 4.1 cans (with db killer). I also ran the same map with decatted stock cans. There is a noticeable loss of power with that map compared to the stock R map, but it is so smooth from idle to redline I don't think the bike is slower by any means. It's hard to explain. Mark Coma and Despres would kick their tuner in the jimmy if he loaded this map, on the other hand if it came with this map on it from the factory I think KTM would sell more adventures... if you run your motor in the 6000 rpm to redline area all the time this isn't the map for you. For blasting around on gravel roads, cruising the woods, slabbing it, etc it is perfect. I think ridden reasonably you could see high forties easy. That's the hard part on this bike, it is impossible to ride reasonably lol.

Thanks for the quick response!! I like sluggish, specially in the trails with a 480 lbs bike!! But if I get a smooth response by the throttle, I'm all for trading a little HP...
