Bring Out Yer Dead 2013

Dick Cooter asked me to get the word out to this group about the "Bring Out Yer Dead" annual gathering slated for July 27th at Sir Benedict's Tavern, 805 East Superior Street, Duluth Minn. 10 AM until ? Food, Drink, Rock and Roll. A vintage moto event but of course all are welcome.

TBay wind farm

I'm thinking about a ride to TBay next weekend for a day ride, to find the wind farm east of there. I found it last year, but didn't find the access road. I want to ride right under them. Rob is sending me a gpx file he has. I have a Back Roads Atlas this time, which should be better than the Provincial map I had last time. Lunch at Great Canadian Bagel at the Inter City Mall. More likely Sunday, but Saturday is an option. Takers?

While installing a not as worn out rear tire, I discovered that I have REALLY WORN rear brake pads. I have new ones coming and I should have them installed during the week. I keep wearing out expendables: new chain/sprocket is coming to replace a kinky chain, and front brake pads are also worn but still serviceable... Tires are shortly behind these items.

...And by the time you get the tires on, the front brake pads will be on the list...
Man you're preaching to the choir on consumable parts! And I'm quickly discovering that keeping two bikes in good repair (and just getting one of them that way to start with) is going to be a chore.

T-Bay isn't an option for me right now, but have fun and take some pictures.

Warning - Dangerous driver on the loose

Watch out for a black GMC Yukon, with Minnesota license plate VEN-318. White haired white guy driving. Last seen driving northeast on MN Hwy 61, near Little Marais.

If you see this guy stopped anywhere, tell him he's a darn jerk with no business operating a vehicle on public roads.

While I was riding to work today, this guy came up behind me just after Illgen City at a high rate of speed and got right on my fender before backing off at all. I was cruising at indicated 62 MPH...not holding up traffic by any means...in the left hand part of the lane. Even though we were in a double yellow no passing zone, I could tell he was thinking about passing me. We got into the winding corners going through the rock cuts and he stayed right behind me, but at what seemed to be a reasonable distance.

Next thing I know, in my rearview mirror I saw the shadow of his vehicle move to the right side of the road. No big deal I thought...the dude's either not paying attention and going to run himself off the road or he's pulling over to stop. Well he got back into the lane, so I figured he's just typical inattentive driver. Ride partway through the next corner, check my mirror...and he's totally gone? Look over my right shoulder, the stinker is driving half on the shoulder, half in the lane attempting to pass me! WHAT THE HECK! At this point, the guy is going probably 70+ MPH. It happened really fast, and I really had no choice but to ride my line and let him by. As soon as he was by I gave him the biggest middle finger I could, and he just waved at me through his back window.

We immediately caught slower traffic. So I was stuck right on his bumper going pretty slowly...there was probably steam pouring out of my helmet, and I was seriously considering riding alongside and kicking his widow. Well he decided to make yet another brilliant maneuver, overtaking a car while going into a double yellow, blind hillcrest corner.

Then we got onto the long straights near Little Marais, he passed a couple more vehicles at high speed and faded away. I kept a lookout for the vehicle stopped (hopefully having hit a deer) so I could give the guy an earful. Probably better though, I did not see him again.

I think this could be handled a lot better during the Shindig. We just need to get his "20."
