So the pants which match my Klim jacket have been out of stock nationwide for months but today Dana found a set in Nevada...guess what is on order!! I really didn't need a matching pair of pants but my several year old Aerostitch pants have gotten pretty trashed and not worth sending back for repair and I needed something for the Canada trip. Hopefully they are the right ones when they show up

They got in a set of Latitudes which were my size. It's not a case of ordering it's more like that Klim doesn't have any.

The plan is to go bike camping Friday night with Ryan and then meet up at Summit point. That could all change when he sees the weather forecast.

Heading up the Dalton tomorrow. Changed to Karoo3s today. Changed oil and air filter general lookover. Should hold me till I return on July 15. Anakee 3s held up well. 7k miles with probably 3k left. Did great in dirt mud hwy and gravel. Epic trip so far. Spent the evening jetboating the Tanana river with my cousin in Delta Junction.

Iron Butt Rally--

So the rally officially starts in T-4 days. It looks like the competitors are starting their voyage to PA!

https://spotwalla.com/locationViewer.php?id=168

Daily report file will be here:

http://www.ironbuttrally.com/IBR/2013.cfm

Quote:
For those who don't know, the IBR is known as the world's toughest motorcycle rally and consists of checkpoints located around the United States. In order to be considered a finisher of the event, riders must be present at each of these checkpoints within a two hour window.

One will not earn enough points to be considered a finisher if they just ride straight to the various checkpoints. Riders must boost their standings by visiting optional bonus destinations located around the United States and Canada. Where else in the world do riders have to ride 11,000 miles in 11 days, while trying to find odd places like the remains of the Branch Dividian Compound, or stop by the Los Angeles County morgue to purchase a toe tag or take a hike in Lava Tube or perhaps visit Key West, or Alaska?

No consideration is given for bad weather--riders can expect to ride through rain, sleet, snow, severe thunderstorms, hurricanes and the occasional tornado. Event organizers intentionally route the rally through such places as Death Valley or the Mojave Desert during the hottest part of the day, to extreme cold at the top of mountains in Colorado where competitors may have to struggle up a muddy road to reach a 14,000 ft. peak.

The rally starts on July 1st at 10am EDT in Pittsburgh, PA. The first checkpoint is July 4th, from 8pm to 10pm EDT back in Pittsburgh, PA. The second checkpoint is July 7th, from 8pm to 10pm PDT in Sacramento, CA. The finish is July 12th, from 8am to 10am EDT in Pittsburgh, PA.

Ugh, the weather this week. Not thinking that a high-power, slick tire go-kart will be doable if this moist weather continues. So, may need to rewicker to another date..

It seems that the showers come in the late afternoon and I think they've built their courses with good drainage. I plan on camping in the area around Summit Point either tomorrow or Saturday night depending on how my day goes tomorrow. Then on Sunday I'm heading up to Pittsburgh for the start of the IBR on Monday.

EB Updates

The short loop is closed to bikes on Saturday for a mud run.
http://dirtylionmudrun.com/

If you ride on Sat, you must ride the long loop. Watch for the downed trees on the long loop.

If you ride the short loop Sunday, please clean up any remaining trail markers that are related to the mudrun.
