Fine. Please drop it, the CCW discussion doesn't belong in this thread.

Difference between a Bimmer and a Porcupine?
On a Porcupine the pricks are on the outside...

As for CCW... put your dicks back in your pants. There is NO WAY, in this situation, an expert marksman could have defended himself with a gun. That and a PROPERLY trained CCW holder wouldn't flip off a reckless driver. Properly trained, you avoid confrontation. Having a CCW doesn't automatically make you smart and in some cases it just makes you dangerous.

I wonder if there are more states with the open-carry will produce a more polite population (i.e. to the thugs)? On July 1st we go open-carry for Mississippi.

+1. I am a CCW holder and the first thing a CCW holder needs to grasp is that you had better be trying to avoid unnecessary escalations especially when you are carrying.

Having said that, it seems kind of stupid that in a situation where maintaining control of your bike has never meant more to your survival and ongoing continuity of every bone in your body to take your hand off the controls so you can wave the artillery around. That kind of thinking doesn't even make good late-night TV.

Not to drag this thread too far off course, I have to say I think that open carry for private citizens is tactically a bad idea, legal rights notwithstanding. I had a little learning experience when I first started carrying. I was in a fastfood joint after hours visiting my girlfriend while she and her crew locked up. There was one patron left inside and like a complete dumbass, I was walking around with my gun showing. Right after I left, the guy hopped up and announced "Now that the cop is gone, this is a stick-up." I am not and never have been a cop. I was a very naive twenty-something doofus who is only around to tell this cautionary tale because the other guy simply didn't feel like killing anybody that night. I would logically have been his first target and I would have never known what hit me. These days, I doubt the riffraff would be so gracious about it.

On another note, they don't seem to have a strict moderation policy on the comments from that linked article.

Don't EVEN suggest that the rider should have to kiss the car drivers ass because of what he did to the rider beforehand. Maybe he should have had his side mirror kicked off because he never used it and didn't need it. Or his head, for that matter. Perhaps the BMW driver needed a good beating. Some people need pain to educate them into why they shouldn't fuck with others on the road.

That's the way, I've always thought. I don't want anybody to know I am carrying.

The rider and passenger both got hurt, do you think they made the right decision to confront (by way of alleged gestures) the driver if those gestures were the reason the driver swerved into the riders?

I'm packing a penis. Other than that, I am unarmed and have had no issues in the 58 years of my life. I suspect the first person who would be shot if I carried a gun around would be me.

Regardless of where one stands on the issue of firearms, having a weapon and knowing how to use it take a backseat to situational awareness and prudence. On the other hand, situational awareness and prudence sometimes require assistance. (I've had a disturbing knack for attracting the attention of psychotic loons and threatening con artists especially on road trips, and couple of them only seemed to lose interest when they finally suspected - correctly - that I was armed.)

What gets me is how many people prefer to save face at the expense of losing ass. Motorcycles do not make good platforms for negotiating from a position of strength. I nearly got sideswiped the other day on an on-ramp by a dumbass who was too damn cool to check his mirrors or to make a shoulder check, not that it would have done much good from his slouched position in the center of the front seat of his car. (I though that's where the gear shift lever was in a Lexus, but to each his own. ) No worries, I was anticipating he'd be an idiot and swerved accordingly. When he realized he had almost taken me out, he shrugged with an attitude of "Serves you right for being in my way." Now, I'd be lying if I said I were happy with the SOB, but common sense says I'd have been at a real disadvantage to force the issue while in motion. I just mentally congratulated myself on having the right response instead of grabbing a handful of front brake. Ramping up the tension to where somebody got shot (and I was not carrying) or got his head bashed into the pavement just doesn't seem worth the long-term consequences for a few moments of ego gratification.

I've only had to show mine once in my 50 years of life, (gun not penis), and the perpetrator backed off and went on his merry way.
