Given that everything you are doing to make it feel better is actually going against the theoretical ideal - backed-up by our sag findings - I suspect that you are fighting the design of the bike.

My experience with the GS range is the same. They feel like cruisers not MXers or sprotbikes. The front is all the way out there, doing its own thing, with a big disconnect to the rider, comparatively. Long-term GS riders probably get used to it, and develop a feel for it.

I hired an R1150GS for 10 days a few years ago; it was enough to put me right off them (that wasn't the only issue though).

Racing coming up

Anyone partaking in the racing, apart from me? I now have a tow bar on the work chariot so I'm good to go anytime, anywhere. Happy to give anyone a lift, but I'm working in Blenheim on Mondays so will stay there after the Marlborough races.

XC2 at Ward, Sunday 30th June
Enduro at Hira, Saturday 6th July
Endurocross at Tadmor, Sunday 7th July
XC3 at Marlborough, Saturday 20th July
XC4 at Tadmor, Sunday 4th August

I had the forks re-valved before the first race; they are so stunningly good I can't fault them yet.

The shock has been re-worked over the last couple of days and is winging its way back to me overnight. It will be very interesting to see how it handles. At speed it was bloody terrible compared to the improved forks: it was totally out of control. Mind you, I was probably hitting things harder and faster with a front end that was up to the task. It'll have a new spring (probably too heavy but better than the progressive that was on there) and also will drop the wheel travel by 20mm which will help the stand-over height. Can't wait to to try it!

Also...

Jen is talking about having a shed night at her place sometime soon-ish. Who's up for that?

Not much riding involved dammit. You need to sit at a check point, all toasty warm, and have hot coffee feed to you all day.

No wait, that's me. You have to stand out in the rain and snow, eating cold gruel.

I've briefly thought about putting some 705's onto Gus. Anyone have an opinion? Anyone?

Shinko 705s, never had them, apparently make you crash a lot.

Should I buy a DR?

Why don't trials bikes run knobblies?

Padmei, have you ever got lost while riding?

as a matter of fact one of my customers has a whole container full of Shinko 705s. he' doesn't know what to do with them & was going to dump them. he was asking me if I knew anyonw who wanted them - someone local, living close in Nelson city.
He also had a hotted up DR650 motor with full custom bling stuff & a spiffy frame ready with camera mounts attached all over it.
the only people I know on adv rider aren't into that kinda stuff... oh well I guess off to the dump with it all....
