Don't forget the large, owl-shaped Russell Day-long ass buckets. Never quite understood why such monotonous, Chinese water torture-like activity is so attractive to some people.

I still like the long distance sport and enjoy the readings every two years. I suppose it's not top of most guys type of rides, but it is top of mine. They had good coverage in years past, this year nothing, at least nothing worth snot.

I'm not saying it would make good TV. Or that there is a huge audience for the challenge coverage.

But count me in as someone who has an interest. I would like to know a bit about the human drama of it all. Especially since I hear there are several participants who chose the Tenere as their weapon of choice. That's gotta make some of us perk up our ears?

I'm no Iron Butt wannabe. But I get a particular satisfaction, in my old age, every time I overcome a long-day challenge. Sometimes that's 700 miles of "gotta be there TODAY". Sometimes it's simply my destination is 1500 miles away and I pick 2 wheels over 4.

Is it true Eric is running this year? Regardless of the banter he gets into around here, I would be a fan of his. Kinda cool to know somebody that's pushing the limits of what we crazy humans can accomplish.

I'm pretty sure Eric is doing it this year. I thought I spotted his Valdez tank on the back of one of those Teneres.

What would make it almost bearable is how large groups get together and do it stateside. I'd hate doing it with only one or two riders. Fighting all of the discomfort along with trying to shake off bouts of drowsiness is kinda daunting when you're by yourself and the few others are spread out. Also, I value my naps at this age. ;)

Izzat your sister? Can I get her phone number? Does she like 50 year old fat guys who are into Star Trek/Lord of the Rings/Twilight/Harry Potter? So many questions, so much spare time/tissues.

I've been following the IBR coverage on the FJR Forum as well as here: http://ironbuttrally.com/IBR/2013.cfm

There are 4 Tenere's in the Rally, with the top place currently being Tonie Cowen in 11th.

See today's report for full details, Eric needs to step up big on the next two legs!

Just read his reports of the first five days and have to say he is a great writer. Maybe not all the info you're looking for, but he can certainly string together entertaining sentences.

Those reports have the potential to read like NOAA weather radio ("rider 45 collected 1500 points at the maritime museum, then 500 points at the train museum, while rider 56 collected 500 points at the plane museum, then got fuel..."), but Higdon makes what would otherwise be an exceptionally boring report very entertaining.

So a Tenere is in 11th spot in the IBR. I believe it is 2-up and driven by the Venus gender.

Two other Teneres are in 39th and 49th.

Our crazy local Eric, is 66th.

Pretty cool reading. the daily reports are well crafted prose.

Thanks for the input on the issues with my bike. I have to go pull her out of the trailer (after going across the country in that instead of being ridden maybe she will think twice before throwing another tantrum) and then try some fresh gas and see what happens.
