Wasn't calling you a wimp.... more implying you are a lightweight

But of course you ain't.... I just happen to like cold weather. Personally I really want LONG days to come back, cos I'm not a fan of riding in the dark. Makes a quick blat to the Blue Mountains on Friday after work kinda tough.

ANYWAY I'm thinking of a quick ride along Drs Flat road tomorrow morning, Saturday, if anyone wants to join me.... Got two days left on the KLR before I pull it to pieces, so gonna make the most of the weekend...

Any interest in the ride and we can make a plan.

Wee Jasper Forest Rd

Anybody able to tell me how the road condition of Wee Jasper Forest Rd compares to that of Nottingham Rd?

Thanks.

Saturday morning ride...

This is what I am planning....

http://goo.gl/maps/149q7

Starting in Hackett...
heading up Barton Hwy to Wallaroo Rd, then through to Mountain Creek Rd
Onto Drs Flat rd
then back onto sealed road through Wee Jasper
then onto Wee Jasper Forest Rd
through to Brindabella Rd
then back to the city

It's about 207km all up. 3-4 hours? I'm slower when I'm by myself, hence the generous time.

I'm aiming to leave home by 9am. Will be up at Wallaroo Rd by no later than 930am....

I've done this route before, except for Wee Jasper Forest Rd....

Company would be great, but happy to do it by myself if no takers.

Wee jasper forest road is a logging road, its wide fast and has a good flow. Just watch for trucks. Very similar to Brindabella rd, gravel isn't as deep though.

Nice day for it

Ended up leaving home a tad later at 1045... more sleep and sunshine this way....

up the Barton for petrol at Gold Creek, which apparently runs out reasonably often....

Down Wallaroo Rd to Hawthorn. I find the section between the "river" crossing and the farm house at the top of the hill a bit nerve wracking after all the keep out / private property signs. Seems to be unwelcoming energy in that bit....!
(who pays to maintain that bit of road??)

I was heading up that hill and suddenly the road surface became really shit, and I'm thinking what the hell have they done here, look up and there is a grader bearing down on me.....

Past the house of horrors felt more relaxed immediately and onto the nice bit of track... lots of sheep called Sean today. Great country through there, I like it.

Onto Mountain Creek Rd and decided to ride Sawyers Gully Rd instead... haven't ridden it this direction before, and I liked it more this way! Lot more rutted than I remember it, heaps of cows and sheep and a small dog on the road. A fun and beautiful ride.

Hammered along to Wee Jasper for a stop at the "pub" for a pie and what should not have been called a coffee, but the fire was on, and it was all hot. The woman who runs the place sure is "interesting".... plus a new lovely dog, an old dog, couple of five week old goats to make it a nice spot....

Back on the bike, notice one of the rear indicators is hanging by a wire, and dammit left the electrical tape on the other bike, oh well hope it doesn't fall off. Down Tumut road, nice run up to the turnoff to Wee Jasper Forest Rd. Sun has been and gone, and I can feel the snow clouds now, finger tips getting a bit nippy now. The road was good in places and pretty damn gravelly in others. Still not 100% confident in deeper gravel, but the front knobby tracked well even as I felt the rear sliding a bit, all was well though. 10km of sealed road, then back onto the unsealed Brindabella Rd... actually less gravel here than than WJF rd today, nice for a change. Been on Brindy road a few times, but again, not in this direction and it was a nice change, almost like riding a new road. Passed a few 4WDs and almost got cleaned up only once or twice this time, so that's better than usual....

Eventually back onto the other end of Brindabella Rd sealed bit, got a bit enthusiastic on the throttle through the corners and almost ran up the backside of a guy on a dirt bike turning off.... oops....

A nice little run, just over 210km..... now only 120km to go on the KLR before I hit the 10,000km of riding on it, which is where I promised it and me a new top end. Even though it is running well, oil just disappears like it grows on trees.... already dreaming about the new shiny piston

So, one more ride tomorrow.....

Hey guys,

Just saw the fireworks accident over in the USA on the news. Wooden platform fell down which caused rockets and fireworks to shoot into the crowds
(no-one was seriously injured thank goodness)

I didn't know that dirty dennis was over there at the moment....
Or, maybe DD went to the same pyrotechnics school...

Went out to test some new boots, and ran into Don T - followed him to a nice brunch in Gunning - some others turned up - with a hard cold wind blowing outside no one was keen to leave the fire - left eventually, and crept back up Yass River Rd against a 30-knot sub-zero head wind ...

Might have been a bit more protected up in the forest ...

Good boots though ...

Wasn't a bad day today, if you could get out of the wind,
only a small breeze but shit it was lazy - went through ya, not around
Gotta get out for a ride this week, been working on projects last three days, new look for 'Kenny' when he gets out of 'dry dock'
Cheers

Cooma via Tally & Cowra Ck this Wednesday (10th)

Short notice, but there will be a ride to Cooma this Wednesday (10th) if anyone is interested.

We'll meet at Hoskinstown a bit before 9:00am ...

Head via Forbes Ck to Bald Hill / Palerang / Main Range / Rocky Pic FTs - then take Wild Cattle Flat Rd off the Braidwood Rd, down to Jerangle Rd - continue down toward Bredo - exit Jerangle Rd at Good Good, and follow Dowling / Old Good Good / Inolay FTs across the Cowra Ck area - exit down to Peak View Rd, then Numeralla and the back roads to Cooma for lunch at Kuma Pies ...

Home via Shannon's Flat / Namadgi / Angle Crossing, as usual ...

Let me know if keen ...
