All I've seen are salamanders and scorpions. I hate scorpions.

Timber Rattler best I can tell.

But,,,,, no more snake talk from me!

Heads up though,,,,, there is a large tree down on FS42 just north of the Appalachian Trail crossing where FS28 and I think,,,, 72 intersect. I found it at night and I was clipping along pretty quickly on the DL. I tried to go to the right and go under it, hit a limb hard with my foot. Bounced off the limb and went into the ditch where my nearly worn out 705s found wet dirt/mud and I fell.

I immediately noticed a hole in my Sidi On-Road and thought the worst. In spite of my foot hurting like hell I got the DL up and rode it out the ditch {took quite awhile with a couple more drops due to the slick conditions} then hit FS28 and got to the ER in Dahlonega ASAP. Like I said, when I saw that hole and considering the impact and pain,,,,, I thought the wood may have punctured my boot and thought it best not to remove my boot till I got to the ER. When I got there,,,, I took the boot off and thankfully, the boot appears to be three layers there and the hole only went one.

I left much to the chagrin of the ER nurse. It's swelling and I have several blood shot veins in the area of the impact. Hurts like hell too. Believe it or not,,,, the DL is none the worse for wear with the only damage being scratches to both panniers, some scratching to my P40 Warhawk teeth on the right side. My right side hand guard popped off but it didn't hurt it and I popped it back on. So, the only real damage from hitting a tree limb, nearly hitting the whole tree then falling in a ditch three times is a hole in my left On-Road boot in the foot arch area but I'm going to fill the area with Tenacious Grip Urethane and hopefully that'll fix it right up. Pretty spunky glue/seam sealer if any of you haven't ever used it.

Speaking of trees down, there are 2 trees down on Windy Gap less than 1/4 mile from the parking lot. I couldn't find a way around them and had to retreat.

I think this might be the tree you found. I discovered this one late yesterday evening while making my usual loop around home. I came in from the Ranger Camp and it was located to the right of the Cooper Gap (FS80?) / FS42 intersection.

Glad to hear that you weren't badly hurt...hope you (and the bike) heal up soon.

Dat's it! There was a broken up limb about three inches around when I got to it. The front tire hit it and flipped it up and it went between the engine and foot peg where it hit the inside arch/ankle of my boot. I then either bounced off or more likely,,,, just subconciously veered right and went into that ditch which in this pic is on the left. There I fell, and fell twice more trying to ride out of it!
