You folks have some gorgeous scenery here. Went by the Desert Museum this afternoon following the storm. Didn't know what to expect but was blown away. Love the Park BTW.

That would be Mimosa Disocarpa, ( Velvet mimosa )

The common name in AZ is Wait a minute bush, when they are full size the directional thorns make it easy to get into but painful to get out of!

Hey everyone,

Gonna be in the sierra vista area for 2 days and will have my 990 with me. I know nothing about the area, but saw on google earth that there's two peaks nearby and tombstone.

I can figure out how to see tombstone, but can any locals here give me the short story on riding those couple of peaks (day rides)? Where the trail heads are, type of riding, etc?

I'd mostly be interested in road that spans the peaks end to end.

Or, can someone here tell me where to find this stuff out? Any good mc shops in SV that could give me the low down.

Thanks for any tips.

Can you give me a Google screen shot so I can tell exactly what you're talking about?

You're not going to get up very high on the 990. But there is a lot of high speed dirt down in the San Rafael Valley. The scenery doesn't suck either.

It's miller peak wilderness and mt ballard.

If I could traverse one or both, I'd be pretty happy.

That San Rafael valley sounds sweet, too. Please tell me about that a little if you could, or point me in the right direction.

Thx again

Those are the Huachucas. Any riding up high is going to be in and out, not any sort of loop or anything. The Cochise County guys could probably help more with the really tight trail stuff. I don't know many people that can ride a 950/990 like a dirt bike. If you're one of those you might have fun. Probably not with 100 degree temps and 50% humidity. It just isn't fun to ride slow around here this time of year. There's a Cochise County ride thread in here. You might want to try there as well.

It's pretty awesome.

I don't know whether it's greened up yet, but when it does:

When are you going to be here, I'll try to help you out.

I looked up temps and it said SV should be 85ish. Not the case?

Although I do ride my 990 like my 450 in open riding, I haven't taken my 990 in any tight double or any single track. I'm definitely more interested in some higher speed fire roads that enter on one end of the mountain and spit me out on the other end.

I'll be there all day thurs and fri. If you think I'd be better off bringing an exc, let me know please. Although, I was planning on the 990 to cover miles. I'll be by myself so want to keep my riding tame these two days.
