Answer: license a Jeep as an RV. Florida would do that with some simple modifications. Mexico will allow an RV to tow a trailer with a motorcycle on it.

Hmmmmm ...

Let's see, drive my Rubicon through Mexico. Now that'd be a RELAXING experience

I've only ever been in Guanajuato state (the safest state in MX) and I wouldn't even want to drive it there

"Safest state" varies from year to year. When I started riding Tamaulipas was as safe as a house; now I admit that it's pretty dicey in some areas there.

Ditto with Nuevo León and Monterrey.

Today there is zero trouble in Yucatan; you just have to get there first.

Mexico is beautiful and 99% of the people are super friendly. Even today, travel during the day and find a secure hotel for the night and you are fine.

DukeRyder - Awesome pics. Going to be doing a trip to that area as soon as I can get my trans issue ironed out. Looks like a great time.

How bad is it?

So I've read here and elsewhere about issues with the 3.8L V6 in the 2007-2011 Jeeps, but does anyone have a sense for how prevalent the problems really are? Is this an absolute stay away from engine? We're looking at Unlimiteds and the options seem to be either 3.8L or something out of our price range.

My $0.02, don't waste your time with an 07+. The 3.8L ain't anything to brag about, infact I remember reading something about it regarding oil consumption. Something about it being perfectly normal for that engine to burn 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles.

Also there's electrical bugs here and there that Chrysler still hasn't seemed to work out.

Does the new 3.6L have a better rep in the brief time it's been out? I was playing around on the Jeep website and was able to build a brand new Unlimited Sport with a tow package and "connectivity group" for $28k, which is about the same money I'm finding 2-3 year old models for. Of course I don't think that trim level has power anything...

My '09 has had zero electrical or engine problems. It's pushing 80k miles and burns no oil. It could use more motor, sure, but I love it regardless.

I picked up a '11 SWB Rubicon 6-speed a few months at. I've put just shy of 4k miles on it (39k miles ttl now), no oil consumption thus far. As noted, it could use more power, but it's a Jeep...

SO has an '11 unlimited rubicon. Bought it new, has 18k and no issues as of yet.....we love it so much that I might be trading in my EVO 8 on another one.
