James Bay Road trip - July 25 - Fires?

We have a trip planned from Southern Ontario up the James Bay Road to Radisson\Chisasibi departing on July 25, but have been reading a lot about the fires happening in Northern Quebec and its looking like the trip may be in jeopardy.

The image in the link below is satellite imagery from June 19 - The road runs right through the smoke with Radisson being just to the North off the image, and the fuel\outfitter is just south of the smoke.

Anyone in the region that can comment or know a local source for better info??

Thinking we need to start working on a "Plan B"

I am leaving on Monday for the James Bay Road. I will report based on wi-fi and Internet availability on route. Since I have never been, I don't quite know what that will be like... But I will report once I get back to southwestern Ontario on the 14th or so of July.

wow, that looks like a very cool trip. I was trying to figure out a way to drive to James Bay on the Ontario side. I thought maybe there was a way up past Little Abitibi Provincial Park. But it looks like the logging road peters out shortly after the park.

The James Bay Road looks very cool. ANd I assume you can drive out to James BAy at Chisasibi?

Yes but there is a better spot to go see "the bay". On the road to Chisasibi you hang a right and ride over the dam. The road then turns to gravel and brings you to a cool lookout of James Bay

Thanks Cardam.... That is unfortunate news.

I am still going to get up to Kirkland Lake and into Quebec.... From then, maybe things will clear-up? Maybe I'll report from another loop of some sort.

Road seems closed at about the 325 km mark....
