Rd 172 over Pinyon Peak into Loon Crk

We rode the Loon Crk / Pinyon Peak loop this weekend counter clockwise from Yankee Fork... for anyone planning this loop in the near future be advised that #172 road from Loon Crk Guard Station up the backside of Pinyon Peak has three or four good rock slides covering the road along with a couple of trees. We managed easy enough with our DRZ's, but I wouldn't advise attempting with anything much larger.

The road is also still blocked up top by what I refer to as the Pinyon Glacier.

Absolutely beautiful ride. Though I saw you struggle just a bit in the video, the ride none the less looks so tranquil.

After you showed the pictures of the wood on top of Lava Mtn, I had to check out Rex's Forest Fire Lookout website. This website lists Lava Mtn having a fire lookout cabin in 1925 and was gone by 1949, hence the boards still there in your photo. (http://www.firelookout.com/id/lavamtn.html)

Again, great looking ride!

I attended a session in February. He's a good coach and patient instructor.

You let a little thing like that stop you? Never ridden up there. Looks like it could be doable for my wife on her TW200 with a bonus stay in Stanley. I need to keep track of those.

Very cool, thanks! I think I'd seen that site before and then totally forgot about it. I like being able to connect some dots. I updated the report with that bit of information.

Oh, it didn't stop us ... to the amusement of the Pinyon Peak LO attendant I'm sure....

It's a great track.... a bit dirty in that it does have spots of loose rock, so it would depend on her comfort level in changing conditions. There is also a bit of exposure up top.

Eight more days to Boulder Basin

A beautiful, historic spot with, so far, no smoke: http://motoidaho.com/node/1592. It should be a very low speed, hands-on ride. It's time to psyche-up.

Let me introduce myself

I've been lurking around the big DR 650 thread for a few years and came across this thread a couple of weeks ago. I havent been able to get my brother or other friend to ride much this year, so I thought I'd post here.

This Saturday, I am thinking of riding ridge road to Eagleson summit, taking 275E to Crooked Summit, to robie Creek, to rocky canyon. I thought I head out about 9:00. Anyone want to come along?

Welcome to the thread. I'd love to join you but will be out of town. If you don't get a bite here you can also post up on Boise Riders.

Not a ride but some pictures from the area this last weekend: trailimage.com/big-trinity-damsels. Maybe not as bad as you'd expect, burn-wise. Definitely some toasted spots but I think the grandeur is intact.

Wow, thanks I always enjoy your write ups. Her map showed the burn areas quite accurately.
