Only 'cos it was full of deadly chemicals

Anybody planning to extend their trip after the cape-cape run is welcome to come stay at my place too, just shoot me a PM.

Cheers
Clint

There are cabins at Awakeri campground + hot pool is nice
2 x motels in Kawerau
The River Lodge , OK, 2 to a unit 3 at a squeeze
Kawerau Thermal Motel, was pretty tired when I stayed last year but they are doing it up.
Book early , they have both had long term stayers due to major construction projects.

My pick would be the River Lodge, he might let you tuck the bikes into the court yard

Meals at the ' Kawerau Cossie Club ' They run a courtesy van that costs bugger all, don't know of it will go to Awakeri. Meals are typical club fare but quite OK. Denis Fahey is the president , bloody good bugger, looking for patronage so will be helpful.

Kawerau is not as bad as people make out, bits are rough as, in the main people are OK.

Right then. time to wake this thread up
We've decided to stay on the Saturday night at the Tarawera River Lodge
http://www.tarawerariver.co.nz/
Talk to Murray, Phone 07 3236492
They have several standard units, some have a double bed in the bedroom and a single in the lounge and some have 2 singles in the bedroom and a single in the lounge. $100 for 2 or $120 for 3
There is also 1 family unit left at this time with 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds in each room and a single in the lounge. $150 ( can sleep 5 )

So sort out who ya want to shack up with and make a booking.
Colin has booked a Standard unit so he has room to share, so give him a call if ya want to share with him.

If we get quite a few along and we run out of room at River Lodge there is also the Kawerau Thermal Motel 07 3238162

Are you still intending to stay 2 nights at Kawerau? Or just the one?

On the second night Phil and I are intending to stay at Opotiki or there abouts. Bearing in mind the "Cape to Cape" ride ends at East Cape . So Opotiki is just a stop on our journey home

At this stage it looks like I should be able to make it, but not for the proper ride. I would just meet you guys on Saturday evening, do the East Cape bit and then head north again. If there are any others thinking of doing this I'd like to join them for the ride over.

Thanks Aslan. I should say that I will be turning south after hitting the East cape & heading home. Did we discuss if there's accom there on on the way south?

Edit: just reread it & Jatz has the good oil on this.

Yes please, if that works for you.

What are you going to do re accomodation Friday & Sunday nights? I have called the Oakura Motor Camp, & they won't take bookings for less than 2 nights over the labour weekend period.

I am wondering if I take the tent for Friday night, which would give some flexibility if there interest in an extended ride up or back to take in some other roads / tracks?
