We've got a little bit of everything in this non-ride report...including a movie review.

Went to see The Heat yesterday with my bride of 29 years. It was our anniversary. Yeah. I thought it was hilarious.

There was a line in there that reminded me of this episode...

It's much funnier when Melissa McCarthy does it.

The sky got a little ugly as the day wore on....

Hmmm..what do we have here?

Lets get a closer look...

a little closer yet...

Still not sure...but I think it's a hydro project of some kind.

After we discuss the pro's and con's of what this may be, we continue on to a whole bunch of this:

...

Always yield to the vehicle on the right.....

Yup...were all in agreement...we have no fuggin idea where we are...

Great Update!

whizzerwheel,

Thank you for the latest installment, you and EvilClown do not relent from keeping the Adv. community entertained

I saw a very similar retaining wall under construction when I was traveling through Ecuador. I know you guys were running somewhat "free range", but do you know approximately where you were? I'd like to look at my SPOT tracks to see whether building an 800' tall retaining wall designed to look like a kid's toy is a unique to this location or is a new technique employed throughout the country.

All the Best,

All the Best,
Thank you poolman...you're very kind to give us those nice words.

"Approximately" is a very good term for determining where we were, at least whenever we were off the main routes. The maps were next to useless for close navigation...but I figure we were somewhere in the vicinity of here:

EvilClown may have a better idea, and he's welcome to correct my approximation. This site should show up on google earth for sure, but I've just been too lazy to look so far.

BTW, I'm enjoying your ride report... which is full of useful information.

Yes, thank you, poolman.

For some reason I was thinking that was more in the area pointed out below.

We'd left Mindo that morning, thought we got gas at a rather busy stretch of road. I'm thinking it may have been in Allurinquin. It was on that last leg of the day which wound its way up that dirt road into the mountains and we ended in las Pampas. Could be way off, though.

Maybe if someone would get off their a$$ and get this thing fired back up they'd be able to put it all together...

Ok. Let's see if we can't get this thing moving again...where were we?

Oh, yes. We just got done with our 'In the Jungle and Dejected Tour'...

...and finally found our agua and civilization...

Guess my carrying system couldn't handle the strain of a full 2 litre bottle back there and automatically ejected it. That's handy. Right about now would be a good time to hydrate.

You'll be pleased to know I've edited (skipped) the 67 hours down to a mere 57 seconds of your life you'll never get back...

After hydrating, we hit the pavement for a spell...

...Don't know how Dave feels about it...

...but from the seat of my trusty steed it's a welcome change. Good to get some air moving over us and cool off from our trek.

Not too far up the road we spot a cemetery...

Don't know why but we just haven't seen too many of these. This may be the second one in several days...

We pull over and have a quick look around...

...before getting back on the road...

...

|That "retaining wall" or mine or whatever it is is between Alluriquin and San Francisco de las Pampas. The second photo with the mechanical pencil is correct...

Thanks EC, WW and CR, we have ascertained conclusively where you were!

Now I need to somehow figure out whether or not I was there! Time to check the SPOT tracks.

All the Best,

Poolman you might remember this at the very beginning of the road:

Speaking of bridges...

...we continue to enjoy the breeze and the almost effortless riding...

Eventually, we hit a secondary road...

...and carefully avoid the free range llama...

Don't know what it means but he's on the wrong side of the fence and doesn't have the customary rope hanging off his neck. Wild?

The road just flows through the hills...

...but we take the time to smell the roses...

Interesting set of stairs...

...in front of the church, too...

My classic fence post shot...

"Yikes!"

Big honkin' greenhouse..

...

A couple of bichons living the dream...

If only Kimba and Sebastien had any idea of how good they have it.

"Huh...they have turkey's here..."

...

We continue...

...only to get caught up in traffic...

For the purpose of this story, it was Allurinquin. We took a break, checked the mapa, visited the facilities then finally got back on the road...
