Soft luggage

So I was given a set of the Ortlieb QRL2 soft luggage with the quick release.
I bought the 2013 with the Comfort Package which included the Vario case system. (But no cases). Problem is the quick release system doesn't fit, the tube OD is too big. So I like the idea of the soft luggage and the HappyTrails SL rack or the moto-pannier rack system supposedly are the ones that work.

My question is does anyone have either of these systems and do you have any picks. Or do you have a different rack system that fits the Ortlieb QRL2 quick release system.
Cheers.

I do....ehhh.... did. Had the same bags, and welded up my own ss rack for them. If you like it, it is for sale. Pictures coming in a minute.

Post# 18-19. I welded it up with 1/2 inch SS, and the QR2's clipped right in on the sides. It was made to be able to carry anything, sort of like a roof rack on the top. Not the prettiest looking welds, but it held up for the two years it was on the bike. As I changed to the CF/K-39 rack, this one is now sitting on the shelf.

Sorry..... The CF/K-39 is the material my current boxes are made from. Carbon fiber, and Ballistic Kevlar. The original rack could not be modified to accommodate the boxes, as it was made for the Ortlieb quick release dry bags.
They are featured in this different forum at the time....

Just let me know if I can help. The bags have since been raised on the rack, to ride a bit higher. First I wanted a low cg, but, turned out that it did not affect the stability much, and I raised the cross bar where they mount, a few inches.

clip in vario adapter

I have a mental design and have started working on a piece which will use the vario racks to set a rotopax plate on each side. Soft bags will then strap to that. I am working so won't be working on it for a month or so. Basically two channels slide over the bottom bar tightly against the tabs on the lower vario rack it is fastened to a 8" piece of angle iron which will be a bolting point for the plate. An angle iron bolts on where the mushroom of the upper rack is and acts as backing to bolt the other end of the plate. An aluminum plate holds it all together. I have made the bottom clips so far. I think it should work well. Sorry no pics.

That sounds great I'd love to see some pics when you've got it done

Has anyone got the Happy trail SL racks on a F800GS. If so how are they made and how well are they holding up.
