Did they get to ride it? Or is it just another regurgitate the press release story?

Not ridden yet. Said first ride is still 90 days out. Just much more detailed info than I've read any where else. Market strategy, etc... Basically, they say that if this bike lives up to normal Yamaha quality standards, it will be a winner...tomp

I wonder how difficult/expensive would be to replace the muffler. I found a video of the bike on youtube and was very underwhelmed by the exhaust note. I found it much to quiet.

Easy 30-40minute bolt on, full system should be around $650, with a 10lb. weight loss like my winter project with a full Leo Vince. Although it had a 30lb. total weight loss. The full system on my Kawi is very similar to the FZ-09.

After

You have done a great job on that Kawi.

versysrider, I had an '09 6N, and it was a fun bike. Had a yosh slip on and a corbin seat and other farkles. Traded it for a Triumph Tiger 1050, big mistake. The 6N was much more fun to ride....Wish I'd kept it...

That's why the FZ is so appealing to me. A 6N on steroids, I do believe...

I had a Versys, and an '09 ER-6N as well. They are very fun, tractable, torquey, love to wheelie, and embarrass supersports in the twisties. I built the Ninja turned ER-6N because I wanted something different and I didn't think the manufacturers were going to build a modern lightweight, torquey and inexpensive Naked or Supermoto (and to keep me busy in the winter). Similar to your experience after I rode an SV-650, I sold my SV-1000N and bought the Versys. Much more fun to ride, and was just as easy to wheelie.

I was wrong, Yamaha finally woke up. Like you said An ER-6N on "roids". Just what I'm looking for. I may have to buy whatever they put that new parallel twin in too. Aside from my Street Trip R's, I've only had singles and twins in the garage for 15 years or so.

Over the years I've owned 52 motorcycles. Out of the lot only two I4's, a '78 GS550 and a ZZR1200. Had a couple of Honda V-4's, too. 48 singles, twins and triples from 50cc to 1050cc. To me, just more character in those than the fours... Well, the ZZR had character when exceeding 125mph in 3rd, just too fast for this old man.

I really, really want to ride one of these. If I like it, I'll buy it then and there. Looks like just an awesome street bike to tool around on and go canyon carving.

Totally agree, I'm in the same boat. I'm 53, had around 40 bikes, mostly twins and singles of all displacements, 3 inline fours. The only fours I find remotely interesting would be v-4's like Aprilia's Tuono. I'm sure that would be fun, but way too much power for the street (in my opinion), and fairly heavy, and expensive. With a face only a mother could love, although many have said the same of the new FZ.

I've ridden and owned a few Triumph Triples in the past few years ....LOVE THEM , but Triumph has gotten crazy with their prices of late .....One would think that they are owned by BMW ......Having another BIG company bring along a Triple is GREAT for the industry !!...... If this motor runs anything like the Triumph Triples , I will own one when they come out !!.....Jim

But will it handle as well as the Triumph triples, we will see, but I think not.

Regards, Paul

I went to the local Yammy dealer today and asked him if he would be getting any of the new triples in and he looked at me with the stupidest look on his face.

I told him about the new FZ -09 and he told me i must be mistaken as they mentioned nothing about it at the dealer show.

I told him he might want to Google it then.

Is he just a salesman there or is the store his? My local Yammy dealer also sells Triumphs, and the Euro bike manager I spoke with knew all about the FZ, and already has me set up for a demo upon arrival.

One lucky sales man he is, he can sell ST3's and FZ's. "What color do you desire, sir? Let's write it up, OK?"
He can get me coming and going, my choice, his sale.... dd50 tomp
