I'm looking to replace/upgrade our home computer which is 5 years old. Been looking at DIY kits from newegg. Dell doesn't seem to customize much any more.

Firmware/hardware developer here. Three desktops, five HDMI wide screen monitors and a rats nest of wires, cables and electronics clutter every flat surface in my office.

But really after looking at new computers I finally realized that desktops are almost dead. There's very little to be found and most of those are for business purposes. I ended up buying an HP Envy on closeout which has a 6 core processor, 10gb of ram and a 1.5tb hard drive. I do a lot of video editing and rendering so lots of storage and processing speed are important and you can't get that in a laptop for cheap.

So who else is still hangin on to the desktop tech?
Laptops have thier place, but I wont give up my desktop. 3x27" monitors make everything awesome, especially racing/car sims!

Ive been building towers since high school and a few years ago I build a brand new Quad core machine exclusively for the purpose of playing Battlefield 3. I probably dropped a grand on it.
It was totally worth it.
I also do a fair amount of video editing as well so having a powerful home machine for gaming is just an added plus for video!
