Me too... I'm currently in Volgograd after coming through Europe, the Balkans and the Med through Turkey and Georgia into Russia. I'll be getting on the Transiberian 2mora for Mongolia and then Siberia. It was Walter that inspired me to do this solo adventure and I hope I catch up with him in Siberia at some point and thank him in person.

BAM Road

I just got wrod from a GL650 rider who lives and works in Moscow that two riders wer killed on the BAM road. One was a Russian who refused to have vodka with some locals along the road and another was a Japanese tourist who was murdered for his camera and money. I don't know the time frame for these incidents and certainly do not want to rain on anybody's parade, but please watch your back out there.
PM me if you want to read his email in broken English.

Sorry to read of this bad news of riders dying in Russia. I am reminded though that in recent years, people were killed, and their bikes (chopper) taken, right here near me in NYC (the real Wild West). I for one will not let this news stop me from continuing my rides in Europe, Eastern Europe and eventually Russia and the rest of Asia.

Since this is the Siberian Extreme thread, I want to thank Colebach for a great read, and inspiration.

The information is not correct,

The Russians were in Tuva and the Japanese was on the Trans Siberian Highway and was not murdered for anything obvious ... his camera and money were with him.

I am in Tynda just now having ridden the Western BAM again , and if anything that part of the road is getting better. Suddenly they are used to tourists now as they see 30-40 bikers a year whereas before 2009 they saw none. The hotels that are waypointed are used to seeing western bikers now. Locals tell stories of what nationalities have been thru in the last week.

As always I'm late to the party! This is excellent stuff, probably something I'll never get to do.

Anyway, your big eagle is a Eurasian Black Vulture Aegypius monachus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinereous_Vulture

If you ever get up into Tibet, you might see them at one of these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_burial

Always make sure you add "just sayin" when correcting someone on ADV rider and especially on someones epic ride report, here is a example of it used in a sentence for you noob!

Just sayin.

Does the DVD have subtitle tracks? English subtitles would be enough for not fluent english hearers.

Hi Walter,

Sorry to be a butinski, but I am in a bar in Sort Spain drinking with a German biker called Marko who met Sherri Jo on her travels in a bar "Toca da Raposa" in Portugal and would like to say hi... if you could pass on the message, as you can find her better than me.

The world is a small place.

Cheers

Can you believe I'm reading this report from A to Z for about the 3rd time? Not a heck of a lot else to do getting over a separated shoulder and torn rotary cup. Dang deer!
Still a great read with great pictures. Again, thanks to all for the pictures and narrations to bring meaning to the pictures.

Hello Walter,

I'm sure you read that 1000 times...anyway...awesome report...again. I learn so much from your RR...thanks really!

I have a little wish if it is possible. I read that you ride for a short time with 2 Dutchman's on Yamaha ATV. Ill really try with connection (link) which you mentioned in your RR...but no success.

Maybe you have any other contact...or anything that can help.

I would really like to contact them, since next year I'm riding with my ATV in Mongolia through Stan-s!

Thanks in advance.

Igor
