your youtube crash videos saved me some pain!

here's the scene: i'm at a nearby intersection in bothell, wa, not even a mile from home. thanks to all the "shitty cager nearly kills a biker" videos that y'all post and i watch out of morbid curiosity, i've been leaving my bike in first and often angled toward an escape route with a little room to spare.

today, i was feelin' a bit nervy about traffic in general, but since the light is close to home, i usually wait it out in neutral. something felt off, though, so i left it in first and tilted my wheel towards the bike lane. seconds pass, and there's a rumbling in the distance, so i check my mirrors HOLY SHIT SUV IS NOT STOPPING!!!!

i rev the throttle and burst into the bike lane next to the camry in front of me, and there's this terrible screech behind me while i grab front brake and nudge the curb.

here's the kicker: i look all ragey and wide-eyed back at the driver, and MOTHERF*CKER IS STILL TEXTING. he doesn't even acknowledge me as i lay on the horn.

light turns and he doesn't even let me in, and i swear he was stll trying to text. i shoulda let the rage take over and kicked his fuckin panels, or chased his ass down. man, feels like no justice was served. :-(

anyway! i'll be keepin it in first at lights for awhile, so i suppose i can thank YOU GUYS for my current state as something other than a camry's trunk decoration, and i'll make the effort to "thank" that inconsiderate piece of texting catshit for raising my road vigilance up a few levels.

Yikes, good looking out. I work in Bothell, all of my close calls around here have been with people casually swerving into the HOV lane, either on timed on-ramps, or when congestion starts to build on 405 (and always just a single driver.) I'll definitely keep a lookout at intersections too though!

It was the same on I-5 near JBLM. every day going in to work, even on post no one was paying attention, and there are strict rules against using any device while driving on post. more than once I almost got backed into, or ran over riding in that area.
