Thanks for the replies. I'll definitely go for Racehorse then, will likely check out North Fork too, with the understanding that I may have to turn around at some point. I do have a .gpx track from someone that rode it last year ish, with supposedly the "correct" way to avoid the mine property on the west slope. Don't remember where I downloaded it from though. I also saw some pictures last year of a couple of KLR's tackling the "steps" on the east ascent, but to be honest it didn't look like anything to worry about with an unloaded DR, knobby tires, and moderate trail riding experience, as long as it isn't wet. New washout you say? Have you seen it, or just heard of it?

I hate to say it, but a V-strom can't be compared to a KLR....

A DR would do it better than a KLR. I believe they have a bit more clearance and better suspension. It's mostly about commitment.

Heading to Bragg Creek tomorrow to look at an acreage. Gonna ride. Anyone been that way and know if some decent routes are open? Gonna tool around a bit before running back to town. And no, this property didn't get flood damage.

Jet Ralley July 18, 19, 20th.

This Rally is taking place near Cayley about 25km south of High River just east of highway #2. Look for signs. Taking place at AJ Air Ranch. These jets are large maybe 14ft wingspan and remote controlled and hit speeds of 250mph not kph. This is really something to see. I believe spectators get in free. Anyhow a few of us hope to head out Saturday morning 10am from the Petro Can on 130 Ave SE. We will ride down on backroads most of the way and when we've seen enough flying will head further SW and end up Bragg Creek way. Anyone is welcome to tag along.

Man wish I could get out with you guys again. Sounds fun. Taking the kids to Calaway Park for some "other" rides. Can't change plans with them! Won't hear the end of it! Haha. Have fun. Watch out for the low flying "birds".

You can compare a V-strom to a KLR. What you can't do is ride a Vstrom all the places you ride a KLR.

Had my strom out today and am happy how well is does when you are not looking for bad terrain.

They are great bikes, but different than a KLR...

They also take crashing a bit better =)

The strom seems to have the signal lights in a vulnerable place for crashes. The best rides always have a higher probability of bike tip overs.

Hey all. I'm a newbie here, and am searching for some advice. My wife let me start looking for a bike a few months ago, and i was fortunate enough to find a in-good-shape, in-my-price-range 05 Tiger 955. I've been away from riding for more than 10 years, and am having a blast getting back into it.
Anyway, short story long. I'm hoping to get down to calgary next weekend to look for some riding gear. I've been doing a bunch of research, and am thinking the I'd like to try on some of the Klim gear. The question is, who carry's it in calgary?
The second question is, is the trunk rd in decent shape north of hwy 1? I'll be coming from Rocky, and thought I could make a day of it, with some exploring.
Thanks in advance

RB

Lots of places have some Klim:
http://mountainmotorrad.ca/
http://www.blackfootonline.com/
http://www.walthealy.com/
http://www.ralphsmotorsports.com/

Ralphs has mostly the sled gear but some off-road.
Blackfoot likely the biggest stock of the high-end Klim.

MacLean Creek Trail!

The Road is now OPEN all the way around to Millerville. Now if they just get the bridge finished at Allen Bill Pond and the washouts on Powderface Trail fixed, we'll be able to pretty well get back to normal doing loops. The Province is doing a fantastic job of getting us back on the road. Still a lot of bridges out SW and SE of Highway #2 on the gravel roads though.

Out of curiosity I went for a tour west yesterday to see how far one could go on the powderface...... made it to kilometer 3 before a road block and sign noting that only Shell was using the road to access the Moose mt gas plant so hopefully this means Shell has repaired all the damage to trail and we will be good to go as soon as bridge is in

Looking for easy ride in mountains Southern AB/BC

I'm looking for suggestions for a day ride route on the FSRs in Southern AB/BC to do with my dad, who's in his late 60s. I'm still recovering from a knee injury, so the ride needs to be pretty easy, like smoothish roads with just a bit of action here and there would be ok. Ideally I would like to start in AB, cross the divide and then get gas in Fernie perhaps and return to AB in the afternoon. I'm looking at the pass just south and west of Castle Mtn. ski area, but not sure if it would be easy enough or legal? We'll have one street legal DS bike and one trail legal bike. Is this doable? Any advice?
