New KTM 990 buyer Have ?

I have owned just about everything but a KTM. I know in the BMW world some years are far better than others. 05 GS is junk 06 and newer still junk but better. Is that the same for KTM , any years to avoid. I am looking at 09 to 13 with ABS any thoughts, Thank you.

Only the first ones of every engine version, first 950's and first 990's.

Most 950's and older 990's might need some update work done, but after that they are bulletproof. 09 - 13 are perfect, the younger the better.

Read trough this (and don't be scared by it, they are easy to work on):http://www.ktm950.info/how/ktm_950_issues.html

950's

Not sure about the 990's; for 950's the general rule is that 2005.5 (KTM had a mid year revisions to correct some of the '04 issues) or preferable since KTM made a few corrections during the mid year release. That being said, I wouldn't be concerned about purchasing a pre-2005.5 bike if you can verify all of the TSB's had been performed.

And be sure to use the HOW.

Most information you seek will be found within the pages of HOW. It still amazes me in regards to the collective knowledge that can be found in the HOW, and I still need to give praise to all who contributed to this resource.

Now go ahead and drink it up......

I have an 04 950 Its been absolutely bulletproof only letting me down once in the first week of ownership. I instantly knew what was wrong from the research of this site. Everything you need to know about these bikes is right here. I paid 6K for it and probably could sell it for the same years later, you cant beat that.

Good choice with the 09-up 990's. I'd recommend the standard model, standard height, with ABS for all around use on street and two track.
