Guys: Can't make it Saturday---my "to do" list is way over my head!

In the meantime, I need help with my KTM 690 and though this might not be the optimum forum to ask this on, maybe it will work. At lunch on Saturday, would someone ask around to see if there is anyone who knows a solid KTM mechanic who might be up for a little adventure? I have had no luck at all in getting my swingarm and rear suspension properly reinstalled after installing a Kouba lowering link.

I would really like to get some professional help at some point over the next couple of weekends. I would be more than willing to fly up and pick someone up, fly them down here and fly them home (same day). My house/workshop is only about 15 minutes from the Ridgeland Airport. I suspect that for someone who knows how to line up all those pieces (the swing-arm axle is a multi-piece affair), that this is probably not that big a deal, but apparently it is for me. If there is a knowledgeable, experienced KTM mech who is familiar with 690's out there who might enjoy a fun flight down to Ridgeland and back, a good BBQ lunch, and being paid for their time, please let me know.

Thanks and have a good time at lunch!

Have you tried installing it with the shock compressed. Get a large thick zip tie. While compressing shock secure in compressed position. It may be able to line up all the parts.

JAL and Rutabaga: Thanks for checking in. I have disconnected everything in the back, so the shock is not connected to the swingarm, so no need compress it (I don't think). My specific problem is that I can't seem to get the two outermost 2" cylinder pieces of the swingarm axle installed. There must be an alignment problem because I can't drive them both in and can't get them to "pull in" when I try screw them in to the interior threaded "tube" either. I got the left side in (albeit with a little "popping" now and then) by threading it in and torquing it pretty hard, but the right side is only partially in and seems to be seriously hung up. I feel like I should pull them both (if I could figure out how---they are VERY tight) and start over.

Anyway, and this is why I asked for help, I feel like I'm just barking in the dark on this thing---I really don't understand it or what is going on. I've worked on a lot of bikes over the years but never seen anything like this!

Rutabaga: If you think you can shed some insight---by all means come on over. You know where to find me at the airport, drop by Sunday if you're out and about. Otherwise, any evening after 5:30 or so will work. You should probably know where I live anyway, so we can meet up for some riding when/if I ever figure this thing out!

In the meantime, I'm hoping there is someone out there who has been into these things before who would enjoy a little sport and adventure one weekend soon. I think you might enjoy flying with me... there are a couple of riders on this "net" who can attest that it is a lot of fun.

Regards,

Lee...

It was nice seeing everyone today. It was a surprise that my conniving wife, Draechon, and kalonji pulled off. I'm sure there will be some pictures posted soon.
