Thanks for tagging along, T-man. I've got a few more pix from Floyd; I'll try to get 'em posted-up tonight after w*rk.

Monday, Monday

Always a great start to the week when FBAD-LOTBR has an update. Cool picture for the Hoosier room too.

You're prolly the only person in Indiana who has a guest room in Virginia named in your honor.

We dug the pic, and the modest price, plus the fact it fit in one of the saddlebags for the ride home.

I learned how to drive in a '49 Chev pickup with a straight six and three-on-the-tree. The truck in the painting brings back a lot of great memories.

There's almost ALWAYS some old-time music happening at the Floyd General Store. Today was no different. The price was right, and so was the laid back, down home, feel good, foot-tappin' vibe.

This feller and his missus were doing some perusing through the books while the band jammed behind them, and, well, he's got himself a pretty good case of Happy Feet.

Ruh roh, BUSTED!!

He was cool, and when his wife walked past she flashed me a big smile and a look, as if to say, "I can't take him ANYWHERE!"

Here's a whole BUNCH of people with Happy Feet. This sounds just like Floyd, Virginia.

This sounds just like Home, Sweet Home.

"Fast Ferris Stout," you say? I say:

It FINALLY stopped raining up here, and the humidity has dropped (although, as I write this, it's gotten just light enough outside to see that our infamous FOG is back...). It's been so wet we've actually seen salmon spawning in the branch in the back yard. Sunday's riding conditions were absolutely perfect, for a change, and it woulda been a great day to just ride, and ride, and ride, and ride...

All that said, looking forward to hooking up with you on two wheels again. It always seems like once August gets here the days on the calendar begin to speed up and whiz by at an alarming rate. Hi to Heather, hope all is well down there on the flatlands.

I was wandering around Vimeo and YouTube last night looking for a Floyd-related music video to post up, and, well, you know how it is once the journey begins - it's hard to stop.

Alison Krauss and Union Station have strong ties to this part of the Appalachians. This video isn't particularly related to our ride to Floyd on Sunday, it's just offered up for your (and my) listening and viewing enjoyment.

So, like, enjoy. :-)

We paid a visit on Sunday to the Republic of Floyd, an eclectic little shop that features a mouth-watering selection of local microbrews. We've posted up pix from the ROF here on ADV before; I'll repost a couple here in a bit.

First, some snips from their homepage to give you a better idea of what the ROF is all about:

Republic of Floyd Emporium
Tired of being fiscally responsible…. dumping good money into little Timmy’s college fund…. squandering cash on groceries or foolishly investing money for retirement?

Or, perhaps you’re searching for a unique gift for that special someone you don’t really care for….. an ex-wife or your slacker nephew.

Visit our trendy ultra modern store in the heart of down town Floyd next to the historic New Mt. Mercantile. We’ve got oodles of neat stuff that has no intrinsic value or is just plain bad for you! Unique gifts, a truly fabulous wine & beer selection, gourmet snacks & more…….

Welcome To Floyd Virginia

The geographic area now known as Floyd County was first settled in 200AD...... on a Tuesday. Thirteen hundred years later the first wave of “Euro-trash” began arriving and the neighborhood has never been quite the same. Further degradation occurred a short time later when hippies and artist began moving in…… and now, low & behold, here you are!

As this brief history of Floyd amply demonstrates ..... we’re all immigrants in one fashion or another…. and, regardless of how long your stay in Floyd may be..... an afternoon or til the worms compost you.... you’ll find the people of Floyd to be quite tolerant & amicable. (Please don’t attempt to pet the hippies!) To guide your Floyd Experience we have created this marvelous website. Careful study of its contents and adherence to the “rules” disclosed within will ensure that your stay here is painless for us and somewhat memorable for you. During your Floyd wanderings remember….. a little bit of tie-dye goes a long way!

Pssst…. hey buddy, looking for a good time? If you’re new to Floyd or just visiting you’re probably wondering…. what’s the scoop on local restaurants… where are the wineries… the best place to score dope (Humboldt, California), what about that moonshine (next county over) and hookers (Princeton, WV) The Republic of Floyd website provides all the info you’ll need to maximize your vacation pleasures.
