Air filter set up.

Im thinking of adding a uni pre filter to my 06 990. The one that replaces the snorkle. But I dont want it to make it run any leaner wich adding another filter may do.

So it got me thinking. Could I just run the pre filter as the only filter. I would run a replacable/washable sock on it. The main filter in the airbox I would cut out the filter material and leave the rubber frame. This would give me a filter that is real easy to access and the carbs would be kept in a clean box.

Has anyone running a prefilter found their main filter still gets dirty ?

Yes the main filter still gets dirty. Running the pre filter only would be a bad idea for a number of reason but one issue in particular. The main filter is the seal for the air box. Without it, you'd be asking for trouble.

Also,,,, you don't have to worry about leaning the mixture... the Uni Pre Filter actually slightly restricts airflow making it richer. Just a tad.

We found adding the pre filter richened Maya up a lot, black pipe and dropped MPG.

We did the side door mod which sorted that out. I agree with Boatman it would be a bad idea not to run a main filter.

I run the NU1427 filter with my pre filter and find this works really well.
