AZ - Midweek Sycamore Creek Single Track (Video)

Last week I got a message from 4play asking if I was free to ride mid-week because he had some vacation to burn. I was able to shake loose and we did an early Wednesday morning ride on some of the easier single track trails at Sycamore Creek! It also gave me the opportunity to test out my new Sony HDR-AS10 video camera. I didn't have a good mount, but I was able to velcro strap it to the side of my helmet (thus the *bonk* *bonk* sounds you'll hear) and we went for a ride:

Awesome video Yardstick!

Wow, the storm erosion has really v'ed out the trail in places. There were a few spots where you could always ride the high side of the rut. Not anymore.
That was an amazing recovery in the wash. I thought for sure you were going to take a nap. Great catch!

Ps. I think the reason your bike didn't want to start, was in protest of you leaving it's 350 riding buddy behind!

I'm still puzzled what happened in the cause and correction of the two washouts. I was ready to eat sand in the wash. It felt like I was inches from dragging the bars on the ground. My foot didn't even come off the peg on that one. It happened too fast.

I had a couple of strange engine/jetting sort of issues on that ride. I'm not sure what exactly was going on. I think it does miss getting out as frequently. Those bikes want to be ridden!

Nice video Alan. If this is the easy stuff, count me out! Dang, some of that looked ugly! No wonder Buddy was sore.

I liked the Gila Monster, he seemed nice.

Great video. I am tired & sore just watching this. The way I see it you only need two things to accomplish a ride like this, 1, a very experienced highly skilled rider & 2, a very well set up modern bike!! Neither of which reside at my house Thanks again for taking us along as it's the only way I will ever see those trails & I use the word trails loosely

Awesome video - "Next time we will do some of the hard stuff". I'm with BIG-E. That looked like a blast but I doubt I could walk the next day!

The video came out swell, I'm glad it wasn't pointed at me more than it was ;)
Yeah Terry, you need to come out and play.
I want to do more of that when it cools off a bit.

Great Video Yardstick..................It really showed the terrain well, the shadows and all the erosion put some great contour on the video

Nice save, I would have plowed my head in to the sand................

Easy? That's easy for AZ?

My boss asked if I would consider a move to the Phoenix area or Austin TX. He knows I was looking to move to Colorado but we use a distributor there. I would rather go to Phoenix. 1000 times better that Chicago area. I have been looking at RR's in AZ to get a feel for the area.

I grew up in South TX, I regret I didn't move to AZ earlier for the riding

Thanks all! I was worried about the length of the video and cut a lot of the smoother sections and sand washes to bring the time down. I wanted to keep some of the smoother stuff just to tell the story, though. It still seems long to me. Hopefully not too many people got bored!

For some perspective on the level of difficulty of those trails, compare what you see in that video to the pictures in the Sycamore Death March RR. You have to ride what's in the video just to get to the stuff in those pictures.

"Slot bike riding" is about right!
