[QUOTE=Todd34;21834655]A few observations so far:

Apparently, Dakar has little biker gangs, only on Vespas! They split lanes like crazy, run in packs and must do something to juice up those little motors because I've seen a few of them ride wheelies through traffic while standing on the seat.[QUOTE]

They're my boys

What's up Todd??!!! Hope all is well..............I'm a little late to the thread. Looking forward to seeing a motorcycle's view!!

Hey Moses! Welcome aboard. I"m looking forward to getting on the bike as well. Hildrup (shipper) is dicking me around right now though.

The elusive Dakar mountain goat. Mountain of granite, mountain of clothes, he doesn't seem to care as long as he's the king of the mountain.

The wife arrived last week and used part of her baggage allowance to bring us 50 lbs of good ol' American meat! A smart man doesn't complain about her choice of duct tape when she arrives with ribeyes, carne asada and maple bacon.

Well Jack, she puts up with me so I can't say much for her judgement. But she does like to ride dirt bikes so maybe that offsets it? And she did drag that damn cooler through a couple airports.

Is that one of the local taxis?

Hong Kong, 1967, the speed limit on the island was 20mph. Nearly all of the cabbies drove (English) Ford Cortinas - most of them were twin cam. Riding in one of those suicide cabs as it headed into an intersection at 60 mph was more frightening than a regiment of dinks trying to overrun your position!

There is a cab company in DC that uses that color combo.

So I've been taking pics of stuff that I think is funny but I haven't been taking many pics of normal stuff because it's, well, normal. But let there be no doubt, I'm digging this place. The food is good, the people are friendly and the beer is not too bad. You are never more than a few miles from the water and it's sunny most of the year. We are in the rainy season right now and it gets hot and muggy but it's not any worse than an August in DC (if you forget about that little issue of Malaria). The only thing that I hate so far is not being able to see it on two wheels.

Love it Todd! Seeing that picture of the cooler reminds me of every time we'd go back to Belgium to visit family & stuff, we'd do the same thing and stuff our luggage with all kinds of food that you can only find there! Eating is one of life's simple pleasures, but can have such a huge impact on our general well-being.

Not sure if this is a theft prevention measure (only one shoe) or just a way to show more wares and save on space

That gives a new dimension to "open air market".

So, I talk to the shipping folks at work about once a week just to make sure our stuff is enroute and all is well. I asked the lady about my bike and any customs concerns.............

She looks at me and says, "What motorcycle? I don't see a motorcycle on the packing list."

To say I was shocked would be putting it lightly. Now, I had already prepped them about the bike and gave them a copy of the title etc. I had been asking them about the bike and what I had to do on my end once a week for the past two months. And now all of the sudden there was no bike?
