Rob at Evolution Suspension in Santa Clara said he just recommended an Öhlins shock for someone with an R1200RT. We were there on Saturday to have him check out my wife's R1200R (still just waiting to have the Tiger picked up and paid so I can order the shocks Jim set up ...).

Might have been you, then you already know that ...

Lol.....was going to mention the same to you about your wife's 1200r....was wondering if that was you. I was hoping to get a call back yesterday to see what Evo could come up with when I saw this thread. I see Jim has set something up for you. I'd be interested to hear how your wife likes them. Who is putting them on for you?

Fun!

I haven't ordered the Öhlins set yet. I want my Tiger to be gone, sold, and paid for before we start spending money again. Sure, we could just order the set, but I like to discuss a few more things with Jim here. We'll move forward fairly soon on that.

Was thinking about installing them myself.

What is your weight? Rob said that the rear spring was way too hard. The R doesn't seem to be as bad, but the spring is slightly too much for my wife. On the front he said it was mostly the damping that made it so uncomfortable. The spring is on the heavy end of the spectrum that could be tolerated if the damping was better.

He definitely recommended a new shock for the front because the OEM one doesn't have any adjustment, the damping is way to sporty, and the spring not quite right. At the rear, definitely a new spring. Possibly a completely new shock. Therefore, pretty much what I was thinking anyways.

We did some more measurements the last weekend, left a zip tie around the front fork leg. Suspension used during a 100 mile loop of mixed riding (bumpy backroads, more bumpy backroads, a little bit of freeway and city) was 83mm of the available 120mm.

Out of curiosity...
Do you have anything for a 2002 Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird?

(not easy finding suspension upgrades for an older bike)

Availability for 2001 BMW R1100R

Jim,

What would you recommend for the R1100R? I have just over 50k miles & it is getting a little soft. I weigh about 160 & probably keep 10lbs in the saddlebags all the time.

Thanks for the info!

Tracy

BMW R 1100R Sexy BEAST OHLINS or Others

Hi Mr BMW R 1100 R -

Ohlins Has both front and rear in a S46

(others reduce Front size to S36 Body) So Prefereed Larger Piston, Large Valving,(has plusher feel)Shock body,Spring Choice to Others-

The Frt S46ER1 and Rear S46DR1LS are the most common choice.

The more popular rear has REMOTE HYDRUILIC PRELOADER(an Easy TURN KNOB for Spring Preload Changes , REAR ALSo has Optional EASY HIEGHT, Length Adjust, (while still on bike).

They may match the bike the best,

The rear is Offered also in a NON-REMOTE PRELOADER but then it's pretty hard to make changes to spring preload on the fly.

I'll look for pics-

Hope this Helps!

Thanks!

Jim

Do you carry compatible Ohlins fork springs for the 2012/13 EX650/ER6-F? If so how much?

Also prices for the rear shock? Are they height adjustable? If so, would the short version adjust to stock-ish height?

Feel free to PM me if you would prefer.

Thanks!
