To respond to your question ... Grand Junction would be very good; there's a connecting road that in itself is awesome. I could route you onto it easily.

Rangely, Colo, would be excellent as well in terms of access to the route, altho I don't know what storage options may exist if you need to leave a tow rig behind for the duration. Folks at the town's Rangely Camper Park might be able to help.

If you'd like to add a day or two of adventuring in Moab, there is a good connection that can be made from there as well -- also an adventurous route in itself, more than 70 miles -- although it's not one to tow a trailer over.

Meeker and even Steamboat Springs would be good options in Colorado. Meeker is on the route; Steamboat also is an easy connection away.

Hope this helps!
You could ride the COBDR north to Steamboat/Meeker.
Here is the free track:

and then continue on with Tony's route.

That would be almost non-stop dirt. Tony was part of the 1st COBDR ride so he could fill you in.

An increasingly common sight ...

... on Western horizons:

Wildfires ... This one was in Montana's Gravelly Range. Of course, Heart of the West Adventure Route comes with continual monitoring of the route, real-time alerts and, when necessary, alternate routing and other assistance to ADV travelers -- as you travel.

Sadly ...

The roads leading into Montana's gorgeous Gravelly Range, a premier component of HoW, were closed Aug. 17, until Sept. 30, due to a wildfire there.

Read more here.

My wife and I were fortunate to have camped and traveled through the Gravellys before the fire prompted the closure.

You should know, DP!

I was out on the route just the other day ... Saw a hint of golden color emerging among the aspens and cottonwoods. Late-afternoon thunderstorms are a regular thing in August, but they don't last long. The roads were dry dry dry ...

Shall rendezvous with HoW riders from Ohio on Labor Day ...

Take a peek at a Canadian group's campsite tonight, tucked up against Montana's Bitterroot Range and the Great Divide ...

And read about their adventure in this terrific ride report.

Montana's Bannack ghost town re-opens after flood

In July a flash flood roared through this lovingly preserved ghost town, resulting in damage that forced its closure. Many HoW travelers were disappointed.

But it's reopened at last! Read more here.
