or once you find the tulip and click on it, doesn't it take you to the point? Maybe that's a better option so that there's not two different pieces of information happening......

He's talking between tulips. Say you have tulips at 10 and 12 miles. Then while pre-running you find a wash out (danger) at 11.35 miles. It can be difficult to add a new track handle at exactly 11.35 miles. Especially if the track has many trackpoints between the two waypoints.

I imagine that it's easier to type "11.35" and let the computer figure out where on the track that is.

Bingo. But does it even need to find the point on the course? I'm not sure how the backend between GE and the RB that eventually gets printed works, but even if there were no GPS coords for the inserted item the "in between" tulip would still have value to the rider.

Not to pile on, but speaking of GPS coords. Perhaps a happy medium between every tulip gets GPS coord, or no tuplip gets GPS coords would be a "every 10th tulip get's GPS coords" This would still allow for positive navigation, albeit with a lot of back tracking if you have to use the coords. This would help prevent people from getting too lost, but still reward those who navigate the course correctly.

They've already changed that. If you un-check the "show all gps coordinates" or the "show all cap headings", you can just go to the tulip you want, and double click the CAP or coordinate, and that particular one will show, while the others remain blank. Very slick.

How to import a GPX file to Rally Navigator

Team:

As you will see, I've been playing around with screen capture software - what a great way to burn through several hours.

Goal is to build a library of how-to videos.

How to import a GPX file and create a route in Rally Navigator. A real time saver if you already have GPX track of your intended route. The GPX file must be a single continuous path.

Rally Navigator - Premium Features Video

Inmates:

Here is a better video of Rally Navigator - Premium Features in action.
  • Snap Track to Road - Utilization of Google Earth Roads & Routing Function (After a TON of work, this feature is working well!)
  • Create Rally Route From Imported GPX tracks
  • Show and Hide CAP Headings and GPS Coordinates for each Waypoint
  • Export GPX Tracks of Routes to GPS Units for Pre-Running
  • Import Captured GPX Tracks Over Existing Routes to Correct Route After Pre-run
  • Premium Print Detail vs. Basic Free Print Detail

Snap to Road Features - Massively quicker route creation

Inmates:

We just added another round of updates to Rally Navigator and I am particularly impressed with the Snap to Roads function.

With just 2 clicks on the mouse, a user can produce a roadbook with multiple accurate waypoints and detailed turn instructions, all straight from Google Maps road and routing data. This is a HUGE time saver for portions of routes that are covered by Google Maps, which is a surprisingly large portion of the roads in the world, and just getting better.

Check out the video - See it in action:

Any feedback on the "Snap to Roads" Function?

Hello:

Has anybody played with the Snap to Roads function in Rally Navigator? I'm curious to hear how it went and if it functioned in a predictable way. Check out the VIDEO for a quick overview.

To activate the feature, hold the "Control" key while clicking the Map. This will "Snap" the route along Google Maps road info. It will also drop Waypoints at each Google Maps road intersection along the way.

If you hold "Control" and "Alt" while clicking the map, Navigator will also include Google Maps turn instruction in the Text field.

Give it a whirl at www.rallynavigator.com

Hope you see benefit in this new feature. It has been a HUGE time saver for me.

It's ⌘ and ⌘-ALT on a Mac.

For what it's worth, I use a Mac and Chrome for all my Rally Navigator coding work, so it gets the most testing of all the Mac browsers.
