I am making plans for an extended bike trip for the fall. I want to take in a scenic RR trip in WVa. Ive seen several options online. Does anyone have any experience and which one is best. Im thinking around October 5th or so.

Thanks for any help<

Not in WV but right next to Ridgeley WV. In Cumberland Md.

According to their calander they have 2 trips running the 5th of Oct. One of them is a "Murder Mystery" theme ride. Interesting.

The Cass RR is definitely a great trip. The old locomotives chuffing along, blowing that smoke and embers, the view from the top, well worth it.

Another one, more modern, would be to catch the Amtrak at the ghost town of Thurmond and ride over to the Greenbrier.

+1 for Cass. The scenery in the beginning of October just adds to the train ride. Be sure to make reservations NOW for that season.

The Potomac Eagle is a very nice ride through WV's scenic South Branch Valley from Romney to Petersburg and back.

It's the only way to see the Trough without walking or paddling.

Cass, you can rent an old company house there. Make plans now because that is a busy time of year.

If you go to Cass in the fall take warm clothes for the train ride. It can get down right chilly up on the mountain...but its worth it!

Another vote for Cass. It's an extremely cool and authentic operation. There's nothing quite like standing in an open passenger car 3 feet in front of the smokebox of a Shay locomotive with the throttle WFO and the Johnson Bar in the corner going 5 MPH!

RR trip

Just got back from several days in WV and a must would be Cass RR.
