Feeling the bug to trade something.
I need something more fun to commute to and from work. Sole purpose is to get decent mileage and put large grin on my face.

Commute is 14-20min in traffic. 1 way is all 2 lane, other way is 1 exit maybe 3/4mile on interstate. 40-50mph or stop and go. Half way stop at the gym 5 days a week on the way home.

Only requirements are:
More comfortable seating position
able to take the mileage. stop/start, less than a mile for lunch
El Wheelie by throttle only
Subframe strong enough for cheap topbox/bag for gym clothes everyday

Ideas: Super-Moto Most likely
DRZ400sm ----Already have a plated E for dualsport
WR250 -- 6th would be nice, but want more grunt
??

Trading an 01 CBR 929 yellow

gracious picture of my wife on it. I'm 6'3 btw

I had two Versys, and they were a hoot. 2009 and 2011. They're both good bikes, but the 2011 looked a bit better IMO. A lot like a supermoto, but more highway friendly. A wheelie machine as well.

Triumph street triple R. Awesome, fun, addictive bike to ride. Or I have an 08 cbr1000rr for sale if you are looking for an upgrade. I find it comfortable to commute about the same and have done a few 1k mile weekends on it. Much more nimble and powerful than earlier models. :)

FZ1's are fun bikes when the road opens up ahead of you. I recently added another one to my garage, but I don't think I'd enjoy commuting on one in traffic and they get hot quick when sitting in traffic. Maybe I've been riding singles and twins too long, but I find the I4 more of a pain in a butt in traffic. But man, its so great when you get a chance to twist the throttle.

The DRZ400SM could work, but if you already own an E model for DS, why not get something different.

I own a WR250R and the 6th gear is really nice, the FI is great, and its a nice bike on the road, but it certainly isn't a power house. You can act really stupid on them though.

What about a DR650? From 96 - present, they haven't changed and there are tons of them out there. My DR650 is favorite bike right now just to go run around town on and your commute sounds like it would be a perfect bike. It's got plenty of grunt, certainly can wheelie, is a blast in the 35-65mph range and really takes anything you can throw at it. The stock rear rack can easily hold some sort of case. Even with the 18/21 tires, you can run more street oriented tires on it or maybe even something like the 705's.

I could see a Versys that someone mentioned being fun too.

What happened to the 950, you could put some street tires on it?

This is just a beater commuter.

I have the 950 for the weekends and to have fun. This is a Tarmac queen that I want to beat on. No dr for me, felt way too small. I have my adventure but the 7.6 mile commute and 1/2 mile lunch trips are just stupid on that bike. I would warm it up longer than ride it this winter.

Had an FZ1. Great bike unless you are commuting in traffic.
Single or mayby a twin.

My e model is purpose built. Ie scratch able
A nice sm next my e would probably role it's eyes at it.

I hear you about the DR feeling small. Heck I'm 6'4", so it definitely is cramped in stock form for us taller guys. I think that's why I like my WRR so much better off road. However, a tall Seat Concepts seat and some tall bars/risers certainly helps there.

I've owned a DRZ and I certainly enjoyed it off road, but I think the DR makes a way better street bike.

Stay away from a SM. You'll end up killing yourself. I had to sell my SM wheels for the DRZ before something bad happened. The corner speed those things are capable of is mind boggling, but it is kinda fun embarrassing the sport bike guys.
